Amazing what you can get for under £100 these days, a few mods and that will be a killer guitar.

The cheapest Tele copy I ever bought was one of Anderton's cheapest Eastcoast models a few years back. It too had a roasted maple neck and a P90 in the neck. It cost me less than £100 BStock. For that money, you would have expected it to be dreadful but it was actually playable, and it was finished nicely in it's traditional sunburst and didn't make you feel you were holding a third hand flea market purchase. When you took it apart you could see where the money was saved - again, cheap electronics - switches, pots and pickups etc. but they all functioned as they should and felt perfectly fine in use. It also had generic machine heads but they did the job and held tune well. The neck itself was really nice and the fretwork decent - it did have very slight sprout on some of the ends but nothing serious and certainly not jagged and uncomfortable. New strings and a minor set up was all it needed and it was fun to play. I really only bought it as an experiment to see just how bad/good it would be. Would I recommend it? Well, it depends on who you are and what you're looking for. You frequently see people advising against buying a really cheap guitar for a beginner and I'd say that's still good advice in general for some situations, probably even more so with acoustic guitars. The theory being that a bad guitar that you don't want to play is just about the worst thing to give a new player as it will kill the motivation and inspiration to pick it up in the first place. All true. However, in this day and age, cheap doesn't automatically mean dreadful..as it did a few decades ago. Was it the best cheap Tele ever? No, but it was far from bad. I gave it to my son's guitar teacher to hand on to a student who didn't have the means to buy even a cheap electric guitar. When he plugged it into a really good amp and cab in his studio it sounded pretty damned good to my old ears! The lad was overjoyed with it apparently and is still bringing it to his lessons to this day. Someone else donated him an old Hughes and Kettner amp and It's been good enough to keep him playing and carry him through to grade 5 of his guitar examinations to date. I'd say that £100 was well spent and that little Tele found a good home and will be fondly remembered one day far in the future. (Resale value, as with all cheap guitars will be next to nothing, so if you buy one, bear in mind you're waving goodbye to the little you spent in the first place but you should never buy guitars like this expecting anything different). If you want a really good budget Tele copy out of the box I'd have to mention the Harley Benton TE62 DB at around £135. An absolutely great little guitar for the money. That one turned out to be a keeper for me and I still often pick it up over several "better" and far more expensive instruments.

Wow. It blows my mind how they can make these guitars for such good quality and such low price. Fazley also has a set neck Flying V for like $150 US I was eyeing. Absolutely insane

N the era of austerity & cost of living crisis I welcome this type of guitar BPC, mostly because it gives everyone the opportunity to afford accessing they sheer joy of playing music. Great first learners guitar or to learn modding skills. Great review 🎸👍
