A baby elephant was found hours after birth in the Mara. Its mother fights to keep her alive but nature takes its course and the baby elephant's struggle is soon over.

Gosh baby’s eyes were still open. So, was it yanking the placenta that killed the baby or was it more of a starvation/dehydration sort of things.

I think there needs to be a protocol after 5 hours some intervention needs to be started to assist a newborn ellie after all you are rangers or such esp with new mothers say have baby ellie formula for hydr a ton some w a terrible a bottle all needed to get it on its feet then return to mother within hours. Who agrees ?
@DBchi-town5 жыл бұрын
Gale do you notice the comments that are giving praise to the cruel humans who watched this go on? When someone with a kind soul like you or me posts comments like this...no one replies at all. And the worst part is that she said a vet was there. I hope another cruel human comes along and tortures these ppl also.
@peggould59433 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. This was a tragedy that didn't have to happen. These people had a video camera but no ability to get outside help? Interventions r not uncommon. This baby could have been saved. I don't know why these people who filmed this r getting so much sympathy when they failed to get help & this resulted in the baby's death. In fact, I'm wondering if the mama may have been distracted by them being in the same location & this was the cause for her not properly being able to save her own baby? We will never know. What I do know is that, if they had not been there watching & recording, & the baby died, it would be true nature taking its course. But they were there & did nothing except record a preventable death & then give this dreadful monologue. It's just tragic.

because humans are by nature cruel beings. But most of us tend to bury that side and love instead. This woman said the word vet. A VET was there watching it die. She should be tortured like that baby was.

I know I'm no expert. But this may have been this Elephants first baby. And without the a herd being around with an experienced Matriarch this poor Mom may not have known what to do when it came to that umbilical cord. It's extremely sad. But hopefully, if that Elephant becomes pregnant again and gives birth, she will have the experience of this unfortunate situation to teach her what to do the next time around 🐾

Nikki Fiorentino thank You for Your reply. Given that She had experience of giving birth. I have to agree with You that it was one of those unfortunate times. It's weird, I have always considered myself more a lover of snakes and cats big and small, but when this type of thing happens to an Elephant it seems to hit me more. I just hope Elephants are around for future generations. Not just for our enjoyment but for Planet Earths greater benefit ( RIP Beautiful Young One)🐾

I adore the reptiles and large predators, I do a lot of side work with rattlesnakes. I totally agree with the elephants. They have always amazed me, it broke my heart to see her throw the placenta away once she realized what was going on. I too hope that they are around for much much longer than it seems they may be.

The Calf looked sick from the very beginning now that I'm looking at the close ups....it didn't look healthy it was thin and frail than most calfs that I have seen after birth🤨😐🤔Look how long the calf was alive snd the mother just stood there eating while the calf was laying in the beaming heat on its side🤨It was the Mothers fault she looked like a teen Mom that was inexperienced just like Humans that are too young to bare and care for kids....The same thing. I hope that the Mother learned from this tragedy🤨

This is the second film I’ve watched on this situation. The first one was when the baby had been born and was just lying there. Within about 45 secs or so I knew something was very wrong...why, because the baby wasn’t moving AT ALL. When they’re new born they at least are moving their legs a little and flapping their ears. This baby wasn’t doing anything. Even when she finally stood up, she still didn’t flap her ears. So very unusual. I knew this baby was not ok and wasn’t going to survive. I knew this only because I’ve watched (on uTube) many baby elephants being born and they are all pretty consistent with their movements after birth. This poor baby was so far removed from what a healthy baby elephant would normal do that it was crystal clear obvious to me that something major was wrong. It was a long time after that I came on this vid explaining that the baby did indeed die....

Laws has to change, not to allow to nature takes his course when it come to elephants or animal in the list of extinction
@whysoserious96443 жыл бұрын
Don't you feel a little absurd trying to justify the position of "NOT [allowing] nature to take his[sic] course"; not because of the"his", which I would guess is purposeful, but because you are making the argument that you know better than the governing forces of the world around us. If interference is a factor in an animals extinction, why do you think further interference is then a solution? This baby was weak; saving it and others like it, may ill-prepare the group, in subsequent generations, to survive a particularly harsh drought.

They don't intervene because it's better for everyone in the long run to just let nature take its course. Humans had nothing to do with the unfortunate baby elephant's situation and so humans should not intervene. Besides it's not worth getting a person killed when the right thing to do was do nothing. Maybe the baby elephant was defective or not well. The way nature deals with animals like that is to let them die and not reproduce. Nature is not "cruel" because cruelty is a human construct--attributing human traits and emotions to animals is anthropomorphism.
