I literally just picked up an Edwards 335 copy two days ago over in Orlando and I absolutely love it. I've always wanted a 335, but spending $2,000-$3,000 just isn't something I want to do at the moment. Haha. All around fantastic guitar.

I always come back to this video. Love it! My first guitar was an LTD EC, black. I have some Gibson's, but I want a custom model. I think whenever I finally find one for a good price I'll finally grab one. Then it'll feel like a "full circle" moment.

Wow! The Orville sounds great, really warm and more of a Gibson Custom sound to my ear. The Edwards sounds a lot brighter to me. Both very nice. Great review!🍻🤙

I‘ve got 3 Les Pauls from the Fujigen factory: a R59 Orville by Gibson with flame maple, an Orville Custom alpine white with rosewood board and a 2000s Epiphone Black Beauty withe ebony board an full mahagony body. All are perfect and sounding amazing. Very high quality. There ist no Gibson USA LP on the world toll that would beat that 3 Japanese ladies. I love them.
@AudiomoMusic2 жыл бұрын
They are so well done. It's really incredible honestly, the Fujigen factory really is the stuff of legends considering all of the guitars for multiple brands they simply nailed. The R9 OBG is so good, loved the neck on that guitar.

I have an Orville K Series white LP Custom and an Edwards E-LP-113LTC. They're the two best guitars I own, absolutely love them both. Together they probably cost maybe half of what one Gibson LP Custom would be, and I couldn't be happier.

Thank you for summing it up nicely! I really love Edwards, and it is the perfect guitar for me. Though I love single cut guitars, the route Gibson/epiphones and all others go is to make it as vintage as possible. Where as the Edwards goes a different, more modern route, which I really appreciate!

I think the Orville sounds the best all around, though the Edwards seems to have a bit more heft at higher gain.
@AudiomoMusic2 жыл бұрын
The Orville has such a warmth to it, it's not at all what I expected from a Les Paul Custom, I find myself playing it clean 90% of the time when I reach for it.

i have the same edwards LPC. it's a little older and has the cream (aged, etc) binding. i swapped out the duncans for a couple way better pickups. I love the guitar. i don't even need a gibson lp anymore. I've had 'em. but this suits my needs perfectly. i've heard good things about the OBG models, but have never actually played one. i can only vouch for the edwards. i've also owned an edwards '56 gold top. that was very nice, too. i'd like to get one of the LP special models some day.

idk if you're aware, but almost all the orville guitars are modeled after bookmark years and features. its really common to get baseball bat necks on a custom because they typically mimic the 50s...things kinda along that line. ive had a few orvilles and its been the same for all the different shapes and body styles. they're pretty cool for that
@CathyHolton-jh1xv11 ай бұрын
I would select the Orville and try to throw a set of Tarbacks or a third-party wound to Tarback specs in it. 490R and 498T are great too, but I have those in a Les Paul Studio.

Thanks Al, I love doing them. I hope to have more Japanese brands and comparisons going forward into the future - thats where the real value and quality is these days in my book

Edwards do seem to be pretty consistently brighter than most Les Pauls from what I've heard in many samples. Possibly because of the mahogany they use that also makes them on average lighter than LPs from other makers. That's not a bad thing. A bright Les Paul is great. A light Les Paul is great. But the other makers - Tokai, Burny, Greco are more typically similar in tone to Gibsons and Orvilles. (though none of the Japanese made Les Pauls have the quality control issues that Gibsons have that I've personally seen on many of their products).
@AudiomoMusic2 жыл бұрын
A bright Les Paul can be a god send in a mix, it makes it much easier to fit in compared to a big beefy les paul that will conflict with the bass drum and bass guitar in some frequencies. It's why telecasters are the most commonly used guitars in the studio, they just cut right through. I enjoy a lot of those brands you mentioned and yes, even at 30+ years old for those brands in their hayday they are still better than a lot of the newer Gibsons in terms of quality even after all that time.

i bought an ESP Edwards John Sykes tribute model from the first owner who imported it from Japan i got a good deal on it at $1.000 .... i normally see them on Reverb for $1.300 +or- ... its a purchase i don't regret in the least. honestly the build quality is better than Gibson.
@ohplezz11 ай бұрын
In general I think the Edwards Les Paul's hold there value very well for what they cost new. I just bought a new one and it plays extremely well and the quality control is far past anything Gibson offers anywhere near their price point.

Edwards are great and super cheap to get from Japan even with the shipping factored in compared to what we have available new in the US not just from Gibson, but most other companies offering similar style instruments. They are awesome.

If I had the money, I would straight buy a Gibson. I will only buy an Edwards only if I don't want to spend money on more expensive E-II or ESP. And I'm an ESP fan so naturally I tend to choose Edwards before any other brand.

Fantastic video. Might be worth noting that Edwards currently lists all of their E-LP models as discontinued, so I wouldn't be surprised if the prices jumped up into the ~2k range in a few years or even months.

Edwards just renamed their Les Paul models and simplified them to either to STD or Custom. They are still making them now, totally in Japan, and I bought a new one today from a store in Yokohama.

What’s the weight situation with these? Gibsons I’ve had in the past range from 9-11lbs. Same with both of these?
@AudiomoMusic Жыл бұрын
For the Orvilles pretty much the same, for Edwards I've had them as light as just over 7lbs and some nearing 10. It's all kinda the same ballpark but that's the fun of the chase

@@SwainBjornstrandt I love Japanese guitars, to me they are still the best you're going to get with quality control and overall attention to detail. The 1982 Fender JV stratocaster is the best strat I've ever played, and i've played countless american fenders. One thing regarding the Les Paul style instruments from Japan that I notice over the Gibsons is the tuning stability. I don't have nearly as hard of a time with the G string on the Japanese versions staying in tune than the Gibsons themselves. Funny when you think about it.
@SwainBjornstrandt2 жыл бұрын
@@AudiomoMusic I record music so tuning stability is of utmost importance. I was thinking of getting an s2 SingleCut but Edwards seems better value for money. If the Les Paul is good for me I will think of getting an Edwards strat too. The plan involved navigators but unfortunately I am not a billionaire.

@@SwainBjornstrandt Nothing beats a Navigator. One of the shops in Japan I frequent has a lemon drop on that I want desperately but it'll cost me about 3800 after the import duties and shipping to get here... it's just a fortune and I am also not a billionaire haha
