Hello. You are brilliant at teaching. I have a video request. Will you do a teaching on scale theory and interval theory. I’m confusing the technical terms in my head. Which uses Roman numerals? What terms to uses with them. It’s hard to explain. But if you could do a video with the two kinda side by side it would help me a lot. Thank you

The piano in “Home Sweet Home” by Motley Crue does the same kind of thing C > Em > Am > F. The progression you’re showing us reminded me of that a little bit.

Where have you guys heard the 4 Major to 4 Minor sound before? Radiohead and oasis spring to mind, one of my students wanted to learn don’t look back in anger recently and it’s in the pre chorus there

I've literally just posted that it reminded me of Radiohead (before I saw this). I love a major to minor change and have used it a few times myself when writing. And when I do it always happens to be the F chord for some reason. Just sounds so good with that chord.

Glad it was helpful. Yes with improv, often 'do anything' makes it harder. It's useful to have some ideas to get started you can adapt and some boundaries to work within

Lovely chord progression. Similar to Creep by Radiohead. Although I think they use a major for the second chord. Sounds great on the piano played like that.

I had been playing second inversion quite a bit but not quite understanding where the root was. Its interesting how you can flip the shape but keep the root I think? eg your playing with a gap of 1 and 2, then 2 and 1 but it is still a C chord. I hope knowing where the root is in these inversions will help when combining the left and right hand. I might try and make a song from this after my next one :) I need to get away from octaves and work on chords more

Nah, I’m explaining why I’m doing what I’m doing in certain places for good reason. Half the point of making the video and learning something like this is that I want people to understand the logic of what I’m doing and a few simple strategies to try in other situations and do your own thing. A more direct approach would be, watch this and copy it but I would rather teach than simply just show. There are segments where I play examples without talking so you can just see/hear too though. There’s also moments where I pause to explain something to make learning easier like ‘move your hand forward so your thumb can reach the Ab’ because I’m a teacher and know what helps people get something and I know where common mistakes are going to be made.
