Ski Cooper should have been on the list. Such a great ski area for beginners. Quiet, easy, and friendly. Probably the best magic carpet for first timers. I take my daughter there a couple times a year and we have a great time.

Thanks for this video! I hadn't snowboarded in 6 years and had never been to any CO places. From the Midwest so I wanted to start easy. I went to Loveland Valley a few weeks ago and liked it, but the blues in the Valley were still a little steep. It's good to know what the slightly steeper green but easier than blue runs are in other areas so I can practice more before progressing to blues.

Copper Mountain should have been included. The Aspen Valley also has a lot to offer as well.

Good to know. However, we already have a trip planned to Breck. I'm specifically interested in the base of peak 9 - of course, so is everyone else. If we do this next year, we may try for Beaver Creek or another resort. Seems like most resort reviews are focused more on intermediate or advanced skiers. I'm still very much a beginner skier - just barely able to make it down Schoolmarm at Keystone. Keystone is not beginner friendly at all, despite marketing as family friendly. While they have two great learning areas - the jump from the bunny hill to Schoolmarm is impractically large. The only saving grace of Keystone is that it isn't nearly as crowded as some bigger named resorts. Even during Spring Break, Keystone wasn't all that bad.

@@SRGSkiing I think I remember watching one other review of Keystone saying how hard it was among a sea of raving reviews. I liked the resort - I could totally see the appeal if I knew how to ski well enough to appreciate it. They do have a lot of stuff for non-skiers to do too - but if you are a first-time skiing family - not the place. Based on your reviews, I took a good look at Loveland - I may see if I can squeeze in a day there - especially of Breck is too crowded to enjoy. Thankfully, Vail resort passes are refundable.

Breckenridge has actually been surprisingly empty this year, especially in comparison to resorts like Copper. Quicksilver is busy as always, but 7 Chair (Rip's Ride) hasn't been too busy this season, and A2 (A Chair) is always empty because the long ride time discourages a lot of people.

@@SRGSkiing Thanks. Our first day I'm going to try to give some pointers to my friends on the bunny slopes at base of peak 9 but then my daughter and I have lessons at peak 8 base area the following day. After that, we don't have firm plans except tubing at Keystone so I was considering some of the other options in the area. I have an Epic pass (actually cheaper than a 5 day lift ticket) but I can probably swing the $50 Loveland Valley ticket if the family needs less crowds.

It's funny because it's practically a satire of [ça qui nous ne nommerons pas]'s video style. Eldora simply doesn't have enough quantitatively to beat the WP or Steamboat beginner experiences. I'm glad you like the banner of The Legend.

I'm surprised Copper isn't up here. I feel like it has a lot more beginner terrain to offer than Winter Park.
@SRGSkiing
@SRGSkiing Жыл бұрын
Quantitatively, yes. But when you break it down, aside from the Lumberjack and Rendezvous greens, there aren't any good areas. Kokomo and Flyer are too busy, and the High Point pod is overrun with parks and park skiers. But remember, our rankings are just what we think you guys would want. Sometimes that means going a little unconventional. We don't want to list the same ski areas you can find anywhere on the internet, because those areas have been ruined by that very exposure.

@@SRGSkiing Sure, but above timberline green terrain isn’t easy to find, and Union Park is a paradise for beginners! And then Soliloquy isn’t bad to lap itself

Yeah but you compare that to a self-contained experience where you can go from day 0 to parallel turns in one weekend and a whole empty pod of green cruisers and we just couldn't do it. Just our opinions though.

Do you believe all of this would be better than copper for a group of first timmers?
@SRGSkiing
@SRGSkiing Ай бұрын
Group of first timers, if you're going on your own, my recommendation is still Beaver Creek or Crested Butte. If you desire to take a lesson, Steamboat is the best option. If you want something closer to the Front Range, go with Eldora. Copper doesn't have a good bunny hill. It just goes straight into true greens, no good learning area. The one learning area at Copper is Kokomo and that run is insanely busy and narrow--not conducive to learning at all.

Would Copper or Eldora not be better then winter park or steamboat
@SRGSkiing
@SRGSkiing Жыл бұрын
We spent like 4 hours ranking for this video and a lot of it wasn't just counting runs, but determining what you guys would want in a good beginner resort. At the end of the day, we determined that Copper and Eldora just weren't it. Remember that this is just what we think. Sometimes, that means going unconventional. We didn't want to just say the same things everybody else online do, because the typically named areas have been ruined by that very exposure a lot of the time.
@TheyForcedMyHandLE
@TheyForcedMyHandLE Жыл бұрын
He had an interesting list. Resorts that don't automatically strike me as beginner-friendly, although it's been a while since I actually paid attention to beginner programs. I thought Copper would be in there for sure. Eldora can get a little icy, so maybe that's a bit of a turn-off for beginners? However, the easy stuff is very very accessible from the parking lot and lodge. The small size alone of Eldora I think would be appealing to a beginner, as the pure scale of the larger resorts can be overwhelming.
@SRGSkiing
@SRGSkiing Жыл бұрын
Yeah I totally agree, but terrain parks are starting to take over Eldora and Copper both, leading to both advanced skiers on lower-level runs and a decrease in number of true greens at both resorts

What about Buttermilk for this list?
@SRGSkiing
@SRGSkiing Жыл бұрын
Buttermilk has like 3 true greens. Everything else is so busy, especially near the base area. We discarded that one pretty quickly, but remember, this is only what we think the best resorts are for learning to ski and progression

Holy heck, you guys really don't have any videos for beginner skiers. The first thing you talk about is like 5 different trails. As a beginner I don't want to move off the first trail. Stop talking about other trails, I need to learn HOW TO GO UP AND DOWN - not how many trails are low level.
@SRGSkiing
@SRGSkiing 6 ай бұрын
The purpose of this video is to help people progress. I see a lot of people who start on the bunny hill, but then after, have no idea where to go. And keep in mind that this is a BEGINNER Skier's guide, not a FIRST-TIME Skier's guide. My man, if I tried to teach you how to ski for the very first time in a KZfaq video, I would literally get sued. The bunny hill at every ski area is pretty much the same, so what's there for me to talk about in relation to that? I'm telling you where to go on day 2-once you've moved off of the bunny hill, because for day 1, you should really, honestly take a lesson. And in all truth, there's no video I can make for day 1.
