Thanks for the info. For Roku TV users, the OTA stations are neatly integrated into the live TV EPG. The only one time cost is for a good antenna.

What I find most frustrating about Roku is that we got it to get rid of cable. So we only have Spectrum internet. Yet when you want to add/subscribe to a new channel, you have to sign in thru your TV provider . But if you had one then you wouldn’t need Roku 🙀

I love my Roku tv. Have it for over 10 years now. I don’t need a lot of apps. I have about 5 that I watch the most. I have a regular tv antenna to pick up my news channel. I also have a app from my IPad which I can watch on my Roku tv.

I still have cable and several tvs. Roku allowed me to get rid of all cable boxes since I could download the cable company app. I still want cable at least for now but I am not paying $11 for each TV box like before.

I am struggling to distinguish between a smart TV featuring integrated apps and a Roku TV as both still require a subscription to access desired content. Therefore, I find the concept perplexing unless the complimentary services offered on Roku justify the purchase.

The problem with streaming is the data caps from the internet provider, you pay when you go over and then you also pay for the streaming service. The service should be free when they play ads just like antenna tv

Roku TVs only work well with an internet connection. Resists screen casting and usually fails otherwise.

Before you call your cable provider to cancel your tv service I suggest you test your internet speeds for a few days prior to making the call. The ISP may try to tell you that you will need faster internet but you will refuse. Then they could throttle back your internet speed forcing you to call back to pay more for higher speed internet. So test your down and uploads, then cancel the tv service. If you notice your computer running slower retest the speeds to determine if the cable provider indeed throttled back your speed.

You forgot to mention that streaming from a Roku TV/device counts towards the data cap, and there's no way to lower the resolution, unless you're on KZfaq, Prime, Hulu, or whatever streaming lets you lower the quality to stay under that cap. I tried streaming stuff in HD 1080 for a month, and 3/4 the way through them month, Comcast alerted me I was nearly at the limit. I just got a Roku TV, and have to be very careful about what I watch. Mostly, it's just for local TV, and a monitor, but it's nice to have a backup means of watching a few movies, when the main screen is down. Thanks for the video.

If it cost money, I don't want it. It is bad enough to not be able to purchase a "Non-Smart" TV as they have no owners manual unless you print $10 of ink & paper. 70% says don't lick cord when plugged in, don't submerge in water, etc. I have fine internet/wifi for $17.45 per month for life, $1.36 per month for home phone thru magic-jack, cell phone is $20.44 per month thru "PureTalk" that has no roaming in 60 county's, supports 5G back to iPhone 6S. Otherwise I watch me budget with R27 in all outer walls, R10 below grade to footings and R64 in attic. When coupled with Dual-Stage Furnace & A/C I have $89 utilities each month and all LED's in each room including garage but different Lumens. I spend more money on Uncle Joe's post Sar'sCov19 pandemic pricing. Retired, ASE Master since 78, self taught.

The Roku is a far inferior streamer compared to the Apple TV. I know it is much more expensive but you have to pay for quality and that is what the Apple TV provides. Luke talks about in this video how quick the apps load. But I have got a tell you if you think the Roku is fast, just try a Apple TV. It's not even close when talking about load times. In my mind, these 2 streamers are in a total different galaxy.

I hate Roku. Had it 2 months now. It is awful. The remote control is like a kindergarten toy. The Roku is like an evil Leprechaun haunting your TV. It is a huge step back in technology. I am ripping it out of my 4 TVs this weekend.
