I can’t recommend fasting highly enough. I’ve been doing 16:8 since about October and have lost ~13 lbs, about halfway to my ultimate goal. I don’t do Keto or any other special diet-but I do my own cooking and try to avoid processed foods. One huge weight loss booster for me is working out in a fasting state-I swim for an hour in the morning, 13 or 14 hours into the 16 hour fast. You can practically feel the fat burning, especially if the water is cold. It’s also super important to get adequate sleep on a consistent schedule. And I’m mid-50s, 10 years post-menopausal. I never dreamed I could lose this much weight so quickly in middle age, but fasting makes it possible (and it’s easier than you’d think).

@@SheriAnne0711 The most important is what you eat, drink even though you are doing OMAD or IF. Don’t worry about your age and current weight. Please don’t eat any ready made foods , drinks or snacks of any kind. Of course, no juices, no carbs, no sugar, not a lot of meat. Even bulletproof coffee. Allowed your body fat to use as energy by without additional fat and curbs from daily diets Not easy though but you will overcome it in a few days. Apple cider vinegar with water, coffee and tea without sugar, milk or cream. Chaga tea is good too if you don’t take any prescription. Cook your own food. @@SheriAnne0711 I’m 58 and 3/4 (lol). I started IF in Mid August and have lost 16 pounds so far and that’s with being self indulgent at times. I strength train 2 to 3 times a week ( nothing crazy). I follow PJ fitness for women over 50. I vary my fasting schedule often (check out Mindy Pelz) as well as the types of foods I eat and try not to eat the same things two days in a row. These steps have worked really well for me. Try not to get sucked into very strict restrictions as those are unrealistic in the long run. At our ages we deserve to enjoy our lives which can be done while we still lose weight. I often do 18:6. I’ll throw in 20:4 and do OMAD (one meal a day) on occasion too. I make sure not to fast at all once or twice every two weeks. I have had treats and pasta (in moderation) and will extend my fasting hours when the paunch appears. I’m on cloud 9 with how well this works. It will come off. Be patient and forgiving with yourself. Keep your eye on the prize and experiment with different variations and you’ll see results. This is the absolute truth! Thanks to your videos, lectures, interviews and books Dr Fung, I'm happy to tell you that I reached my weight loss goal of losing 150lbs🎉🍾 😁👏 since November 2020! That's half of where I was when I started 😃 Before I happened upon your videos, I yoyo'd my whole life and never heard of fasting really. I thought we needed to eat regularly to be healthy. I'm 58 and I feel better now than I have in years and years. I'm off my blood pressure meds, my osteoarthritis pain is so much better, I'm able to be active again and swimming. My asthma is gone. I feel so well! My osteoarthritis is in my foot and ankle and although I still walk with a limp because of the stiffness, the pain is such I can live with it and be active. My husband says I have a cute "Charlie Chaplin gate". 😂 So now, 2022 is going to be learning how to fast to maintain instead of lose. Maybe a video with some tips? Anyway, I'm so thankful for all your information you share. Happy New Year to you and your family ❤️

@@DebMatthews Hi Deb and thanks for the kudos! After I watched his first interview ( with Patrick at Valuetainment) on KZfaq, I started that day by giving up ALL refined carbs and sugars and increasing my natural fats. It was hard for the first couple of weeks... like it was before when I dieted and tried to cut back on carbs but then, I wasn't hungry in the morning so I skipped breakfast. Then I wasn't really hungry at lunchtime so I decided to go to one meal a day and eat earlier... like 4:00. I was feeling good and could tell I was losing. I lost my first 30 lbs quickly and I was seeing what one meal a day (OMAD)was doing, and I really wanted to get the weight off so I upped my routine to eating OMAD for four days then skipped the fifth day entirely (a 48hr fast). It was no problem! I wasn't hungry. I did this routine until now... that I've met my goal. Fasting works. It's so different than anything I've tried in the past. I feel so good when I'm fasting. I truly believe it's the way we are designed to live and be well. Thanks for asking, very best of luck to you!🙏 p.s....Read Dr Fung's The Obesity Code. It's life changing🙂

Calorie is a unit for energy. Did you remember in school where they thought you how one of the LAWS of physics is that energy can neither be created or destroyed? Every single process in your body requires energy, this is well understod and can be accounted for. So at this point it's pretty clear that if you understand the basics of physics, the basics of nutrition and measure everything going in to the last nibble and bite, then you can backtrack and see the balance for You after a while. Amazing things happens when they do scientific research, turns out that insulin has Zero difference in the weight you gain or lose, IF or keto has no positive impact apart from possible weight loss from the calorie deficit. 🤷‍♂️ The entire scientific community says the same thing, but a few people that doesn't even hold a degree on the subject (and is making a fortune) is telling people differently, go figure...

Because I knew, if they still here, then over time I'll will do eat them... Too much temptations... Now, it is no problem for me anymore if I see any sugary (junk...) foods, I "switched my mind" completely, when I see them I feel no any cravings, I consider them disgusting. In the 70's, in the mid west, we didn't have coffee shops on every corner, or much fast food. These days there are many fast food stores, even in very small towns there's at least two or three. Super sized portions, church and social potlucks, community dinners up the wazoo, nearly every night. Small towns usually have two or three Mexican restaurants in them. again, huge huge portions. The over sized pop cups. it's all part of the problem. Yeah, we ate in the cars back in the 70's --- but usually at a Drive -in hamburger joint. And not everyday.

I love your books!! I buy as many as I can afford and give them away to medical workers and other people. I tell them, "Here's info that helped me know why I was obese. This book is for if you find other people whose obesity was caused by the same reasons that I had."

Thanks for having the Guts as an M.D to break down traditional thinking in the medical community and society at large with your accumulated knowledge, reviewing the 100 yrs of data, having a measured contrarian spirit, putting concepts into lay terms and finally putting it all out there into the public mass media for debate or challenges. Personally love IF as a daily routine and for weight loss. Grateful.

Its also worth mentioning when it comes to emotional eating (@Jason Fung) refers to being sad and eating foods that make you feel better. BUT also eating when you are Happy, a lot of us associate celebrating something with food/dining out but for some reason eating when sad is usually what gets mentioned. Personally I am guilty of this but realized I don't feel like eating when I am sad. However how many times have you been in a good mood and said "Sure, I could eat!". Happiness is also an emotion that results in most of us eating something we normally wouldn't.

Excellent as usual! So straight forward and very easy to understand for the beginner. Through your videos and others, I lost 100 pounds and am keeping it off. I've become insanely healthy and I'm loving it. You have helped me tremendously with all facts of my weight loss journey and especially understanding (in laymen's terms) what was happening within my body. Keep the videos coming. I still do daily IF and longer fasts occasionally and go back to your videos often as refreshers and encouragement. Thank you doesn't seem enough for all you've done. You're amazing!

I love this video. It took me back to when I was in my twenties and taking a behavior modification diet class. They spoke of the "3 legged stool" of knowledge, behavior and support saying that if you lost one leg the stool would fall over. Now almost 40 years later Dr Fung is saying basically the same thing.

Dr. Fung, thank you for all your videos. Whenever I try to reach out to help people lose weight by explaining your advice and knowledge, people automatically shun me telling me fasting will mess up your metabolism and caloric deficit is the only way to lose weight. I cannot get through to these people 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve lost 20lbs after fasting. Fasting was the only diet that ever worked for me, because I wasn’t on a diet! Thank you!
