Overhand knots work perfectly fine too. Never had a problem with it fishing for 35 years. My father showed me the same, he’s been fishing for about 65 years.

I just use the piece of tape that comes on the new line. No need to have a large knot creating a big bump

2 over hand knots one on th tag and then one over the main line to keep the tag end from slipping out. Easiest most effective and efficient way

There’s usually a little tape that comes with a new roll of fishing line, tie a simple knot and use the tape, that’s it. 100% flush and smooth.

Simple clove hitch works. No knot at all and bites nicely 👌🏼

Arbor knot.. called that because you tie it around the spool arbor. That's literally what it's for. Super small. Easy to tie. Holds great.

I’m 25 and I’ve been running my own line in my reels since I was 12. I just wrap it around it and tuck it under its self a few times and I’ve never had a problem. Ig if you’re running absolutely all your line you then ig this is helpful

I don’t even tie a knot I just wrap a few wraps before reading my line on. If the fish pulls that much line it deserves to win.🤷‍♂️

I've been doing a the same knot for 50 years and I do one wrap around turn the line 4 or 5 times and back through the whole and pull easily until it comes back to the spool and the knot is in one direction and i just clip off the excess and it's parallel with the groves in the spool. Because it doesn't matter how you tie off your new line to the spool as long as you can start the first 10 or 15 spins around and there you go you can begin refeeding the spool reel with new line. I can change two spools in with my knot's within 30 minutes or less. I can go back and begin feeding the reel spool with new line. You've got a good way of tying the knot to the spool and it's not a bad way, it's a good way.

I use the uni knot and will try this when i respool my reels this weekend

No matter how you tie it, I would use a strip of tape around the fishing line to hold the fishing line onto the spool.

Never Tied Off My Line In 40+ Years. Get More Line, Know It's Limits & Just Give It 7 Twists Parallel To The Line. No Lumps To Catch You Up.

I mean from the books, magazines and articles online ive read for decades, the arbor knot or a similar variation is widely regarded as the "proper" way for spinning reels. To be honest what you get to work is fine. I personally run a little fabric medical tape with a quick hit 3m spray adhesive on the spool only not on the tape😂. Tape gives the line friction and allows your knot to sinch tighter. Dont forget line lube or to wet your line for a tighter sinch. (Note you tape the spool before adding line, its ok to add some though on the line once you have a few wraps around it) another protip, cast your pole as far as you can, pull out 10 more feet and tape the line on the spool. If you backlash or birdnest, it only affected the line past the tape. Use gorrila tape or a water proof tape for this since the area isnt as protected from water. Edit: Thanks for the 👍

I wrap it around a few times, then do two overhand knots. That's what my cousin taught me, and it has never failed.

I use the sticker that on the spool of line when you buy one.... it works great...tuck tape would work too.... that way my casts are seamless.... make sure your always have enough line on your reel though

I tie it off the spool just like you tie your shoe except you go threw the loop twice and she holds nicely, the knot is nice and small, im sure youd run into some issues ocean fishin but it works for lakes and rivers nicely😌

I usually tie a slip knot for all my reels and it always never leaves a lump

Man… that’s really awesome. In addition once tied slid that first loop all the way up or down the reel to keep it out of the way even more.

On my spinning reels I do this same uni knot but I put a small piece of electrical tape on top of the knot to smooth out the lump. Spools perfectly every time!

I do a single overhand knot it me end of the line. I do a double overhand and make a loop. Pull tight that’s it. No big knot and no bs.

I make a Loop at the end,...and pull the Main Line through the Loop,...then place the Line on the Spool in such a fashion that when "Spooling" the line on, it causes the line to "Synch" onto the Spool,...has worked quite well for me for some 50 years of fishing! My method enables the line to lay even 'flatter' than this method!

I just tie a simple double knot. I usually even put a tiny piece of tape on it and I've never had a problem in 40 years now of fishing. Of course i rarely have ever ran out of line. I generally replace it with different line well before i gets close to the end.

For the past 20 years I usually just tied an arbor knot onto the spool.

I like the use the sticker that comes on the spool of line and place it over the knot, just so its extra flush lol

Fishing for about 35 years and I've never tied line to a spool. Tag end under the line clip, wind 10 turns on, trim the tag end off and fill the spool.

I like how a clove hitch lays down and if u give 2 inches on the tail ive never had it pull out.

Dont tell any one to push the knob down to the botom of the spool .... Perfect job done dude....

Make a loop double overhand. Run line through loop, drop on spool, sinch. Make sure it's facing the right way and you'll know what I mean when you get to this step, reel. If you do it right it bites on itself. Low profile knot as well as easy to remove. Promise, give it a try, you'll enjoy this tie from then on, it's pretty easy to.

Always put the knot up against the top shoulder on the spool so it’s out the way, then bed it down tight, snip off tag end as tight as can too so that’s not poking out.

Overhand knot, works like a charm and lays even flatter

I make a 1 -2 inch no slip loop feed my main line through the loop then around the spool , as long as u put the loop on in the right direction it will tighten when pulled and never slip and the small knot lays flat not end for end on the spool , and it's really really easy to get it off if u want to change or replace your line

I just do a couple regular knots, never had a problem in 20 years lol

Tying a loop in the line and then threading it over the spool allows it to be tightened when you reel the line on and leaves less of a knot sticking out and also is easily removed so you can change the line to another spool if necessary

Lol for the last 30 years I’ve been using the line hook on the side of my spool to hold my starting line and just stick a pencil in the line and reel. I’ve been doing it wrong all these years 😂 oh well if it’s not broke don’t fix it

Replace the uniknot with an even simpler overhand knot. Works great, lasts long time.

Overhand loop and pass through, but remember to tighten against the rotation or ot will just spin. I have found this to give the best line lay on the spool especially if you are casting long distances.

Aome lines come with spool starters on the line itself. The tape used to hold the line to the reel is segmented and can be cut away to stick your line to the reel and you can avoid nots or hang-ups all together.

First mistake is only wrapping the line around the spool once. If you wrap the line around the spool 2 or 3 times (maybe up to 5 for slippery and non-stretchy braid) before knotting, the line won’t slip when you first start reeling line onto the spool

Maybe use an arbor knot…around the arbor of the reel…it’s just an overhand knot with a stopper knot on the tag end to prevent pull out until the first few wraps are on it. Also with the braid and leader trend a lot guys run mid line knots to attach the braid to a mono base layer, and then another knot for the leader, without the spool being very lumpy at all…

My trick has always been make a uni knot then take some electrical tape and put a small peice an inch long on the spool. Keeps the line from ever spinning on the spool and keeps the tag end down

Single slip knot loop for a lasso, then over the spool. I'm 77, been doing it for 65 years.

55 years and I never found another way to tie a low profile knot till now.

The knot is still there. Just use the tape on the spool of line or wrap it around and loop it together a few times until it locks in place. Everyone is always trying to reinvent the wheel lol

I don’t even knot it, tiny little drop of glue on the end of the fishing line works awesome. When you change lines, the little dab of glue comes right off!

Most reels come with a little triangle of plastic that you just slip the end into. As long as you pay attention when line goes low you’ll never have a problem with getting spooled
