Ease of doing business can be made only through bribing, that's how it works in India and any foreign company should know that when you live in Rome, you got to act like roman. In India, you can do something only if you can pay enough to make local police and politicians happy, only then ease of doing business concept can be seen.

I think this is the first think school short i have seen, and the solution is to aim lower first, we have to first developed the basic 64 and 40 nm fabs in india and develop an ecosystem for semiconductor fab as the news and articles quote we have 20% semiconductor chip design workforce of the world but we need the equally talented workforce for manufacturing that will take time to build, plus most of the common semiconductor used are 64 and 40 nm in electronic, vehicle, we should target them to reduce the high value export. The most important thing is with no semiconductor manufacturing base India can't ask top global fab to come in india and build advanced semiconductor chip of 12nm or 28nm, the investment for this fab go in multiplier and the incentive on the table by indian govt are low compared to other major players, but they are there and i hope to see 2- 40nm semiconductor fab, vedanta do have debt problem, they have to pay there long term debt which are maturing in fy24, fy25 and fy26, its about 6 billion, the price of mental is down and they are dependent on high dividends and on the sale of there asset in Hindustan zinc, the cash reserve in vedanta ltd the indian arm are also depleting, if they can't get the asset sale they will have to take loan or sell some equity to pay back the debt, other than these debt problem [they are also spending money on chips, lithium reserve which will be auction later this year and other minerals. Mr Anil agarwal is planning to invest hugely on the perspective of indian growth in upcoming 2 decade( this is just my speculation part)]

Lol ur professor got one thing wrong tho not that india is too poor mindset to invest in semi cond. But whole world is too poor in mindset to invest in sem. Cond. Manifacturing in india. Guess why? Bcz sem cond. Manifacturing isn't a joke matching 50+years of experienced companies like intel ivm in 10years is just being dilusional. And no investor want to waste money 10years to start getying. Return so late. And also not very sure it could hppen that suddenly something goes wrong like covid and everything messes and 10years become 15 years or 20. Or british congress(javaharalal nehru) goverment comes back in oower and progress is halted for another decade no one can take that big of a risk.

As a person who has worked for the world’s biggest semicon company ASML, I can tell you that it will be near to impossible for India to kickoff this sector. The reason is the amount of resources required to have a sustainable industry. You will need uninterrupted power supply for starters. Each second lost is a loss of 1500 rupees. Strikes are unimaginable. Ultra pure water needs to be maintained at 20 degrees with a maximum variation of upto 0.01 degrees. Also, you need great roads to supply all the chemicals needed for the industry… chemicals are highly dangerous and high end safety systems are indispensable. Clean environment rooms will need to be maintained at international standards. By that I mean no more than 1 particle of within a 1 cubic metre volume, with each particle not exceeding 1 micrometer. Now, go figure…. People underestimate the requirements before jumping to conclusions.

@ranjitntu
@ranjitntu 8 ай бұрын
@@madzlife18 Thanks, I worked in the industry for 5 years and I didnt even grasp 20% of the setup. Since I worked in the technical side, it was not possible to understand the financial and business pressures faced by the equipment manufacturers back then. The main measure of success was the production uptime. If a machine was down for 1 hour from the time of the issue, it got escalated to the local office, 4 hours to the regional head, 8 hours to the global head. Anything more than 12 hours warranted a visit by the global subject matter experts, who were on standby to take flights immediately. Imagine Apple mentions the global release of an iphone in a week's time and manufacturing cant keep up their promise to meet the date. This is unimaginable. All contracts will have terms that tie the supplier of chips to pay millions on missed deliveries. If India is to be successful, it needs a culture change. It does not mean people needing to work hard but its more about due diligence and accountability. Chip features have shrunk to 11 nanometers in size and you can only see them under an electron microscope. All defects will be identified down the production process and a significant loss would have already happened if quality issues have happened across batches by then. I would say this industry needs a separate department to oversee its progress!

the issue with semiconductor industrial complex is always conservative let me explain on 20min long typical effort i have check the price list of data storange there various established brand with various offer on specs n price n there list newbie product that always with less favorable offer the newbie always come with the higher price to specs ratio Their product will never have major share in the market as it will only accidentally take by minor buyer that have less consideration in their expense This seal their fate from being major player as their fund will not improve independently Thats bcoz u need high cost to acquire production assembly of nano technology Especially in starting new assembly line that make 1st production batch is progressively expensive So does with acquisition cost for up to date production technology While if u only have cost for old version u will out of competition Bcoz older version mean less production efficiency per transistor It isnt the business that will allow u to success with insufficient fund If private sector have lack in capacity Than government need to be dedicated for total n complete support Or not at all

Foxconn will be back but this time with the Tata or maybe with any newly created State-owned vehicle but only after getting a Tech Partner to enable sustainable semiconductor manufacturing in India...But it shall happen very soon almost in a year or less itself.

Any foreigner company to start its business in india for the first time should know that they would be able to start businesses in india only if they are willing to pay bribe to multiple level of official, start with local politicians, police and then comes state and list goes on, u have to fill all their pocket and keep them happy and only then your business might get kick off. Otherwise it wont be possible.

Foxcomm is into assembly, testing and packaging, not into semiconductor chip manufacturing, Vedanta doesn't have any presence in semiconductor space, so technically, both of them doesn't have technology to make semiconductor chips, they tried to make money under PLI scheme.

I think the S&P's reports which say that India cannot pay back its debts might have also influenced Foxconn decision to pull out the investment

even Apple and Tesla are specticle. Many big companies are not coming as the policies makers and implementers are not the correctly carrying out the policies. This is not only going to be just a setback. The question of trust is badly affected.

Companies need to follow due diligence when doing business. If you think current govt red taping is bad, you need to see how difficult congress govt had made for new business to start.

Just one entity is out and we Indians are already skeptical and calling it a roadblock. The roadblock is exactly this mindset. Foxconn has had a history of pulling out of ventures. Study its graph and one will know. Its no big deal
