Ahem. There has been some ~updates~ - the watercolor paper is available in thicker weight. I’m American, and I am used to lbs Instead of metric, thus why I didn’t know it was thin. -the gouache needed less water ... alright that is all. Continue on! :)

I'm so glad someone finally did a video about AliExpress. I hate Wish and people use it like there isn't an alternative out there. Wish always charges shipping, even on "free" items. I never pay shipping on Ali and I've gotten items for 30 to 40 cents. Much cheaper than whatever "free" wish item was out there. Thank you!
@myzjellybelly
@myzjellybelly 5 жыл бұрын
It's so weird that people hype up Wish when AliExpress was a thing way before Wish. *Fun fact:* Wish originally wasn't a website you can buy from. It was a "wish list" website that you can compile your own wish lists from any website.
@Dispeckful
@Dispeckful 5 жыл бұрын
@@myzjellybelly Oddly enough I knew that! Lol. I used to run bulk buy groups on Facebook and we used AliExpress and their bulk sister site Alibaba almost exclusively. I used Wish a few times but it was well before they started advertising like they do now, and because of AliExpress I knew what to expect when I ordered. I just refuse to use them anymore, and I'm really glad there's a video now. I hope more people stop using Wish.

you could use guache without water like u use it and leave just the water resedue on the brush not put it into the guache it's self. You could use it with water to make it not as vibrant but u already dailuted it so it is not as vibrat as it should have been. It was vibrant on your hands. No hate just commenting because i use it. SO this might help. next time use it as a thicker supstance and dailute with water dont be scared to go in. Treat like a painting not a water color sheet. I have watched many videos of people buying art supplied from Wish and Aliexpress, but no one has yet to mention (from what I have seen so far) the amount of detail that you have. The handmade brushes you appreciated and showed that they were handmade. The water paper being thinner, but not only saying it, but comparing many supplies with others, yes, but then updating the paper that was shipped later in your comment. Thank you for a wonderful and informative video.

you used too much water with your gouache. You want the consistency of heavy cream. When you add to much water you break the pigment down. That is the grainy texture. The paperweight that you bought is generally for students. When you use a lot of water anything under 300 Gsm is no good. The "Mechanical Pencil" Is called a lead holder for 2mm lead. Water-based pens are NEVER waterproof. for waterproof pens look for archival ink in pens. From a person who works in an art store.

Love your videos! Anyway, definitely use less water with gouache. Also, I've had trouble with fineliners on top of gouache as well, so it's probably not the pens' fault; I've found that a fine-tip acrylic paint pen works better if doing linework on top of gouache.

Tip for opening metal tubes like that. Take a tack/push pen to deeply indent in the center of the opening or even push all the way through THEN use the cap to open it the rest of the way. It makes it much easier!💕 - Some fine liners have to dry FOR AWHILE before they are actually water resistant/waterproof. Even some expensive liners. Don’t know if that was the case with THOSE fine liners. But something for people to keep in mind. Just like you have to allow some of them to dry for quite awhile before you can erase your pencil marks. - Sure the erasers are absolutely ADORABLE & perfect to collect/add cut touches to your art space...but do they actually erase well?🤔 ESPECIALLY the toothbrush one as it has a pencil on the other end. Just curious. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

difference between the two paints is that gouache is more opaque than watercolor. When a layer of watercolor is applied, the white paper and any preliminary drawings underneath will show through, whereas when a layer of gouache is applied, the paper will not show through nearly as much.

Gouache is almost exactly like watercolor in the pigment, but it's less refined so that its more opaque. To activate it, you need to add just a LITTLE bit of water. The consistency should be of like melted ice cream. If the gouache is coming down like dry brush add more water, if there's weird texture, less water more paint.

Gouache is basically just thicker, more pigmented watercolor. It can be used with or without water and will have the same effect as watercolor if you add A LOT of water to it. It can also be reactivated like watercolor paint. It just has larger pigment particles. Basically, if you're looking for the transparency effect, you'll get it easier with watercolor paints. If you want more vibrancy but with the same easy clean up as watercolor, use gouache.

The mechanical pencil looks a hell lot like the "TK- Minenstifte" (sorry for the German only description I just don't know the English term) we were asked to use for technical drawings (I study architecture in Germany). In fact those mines come pre-sharpened, too and in many different grades from real soft and easy to smudge (probably what you might use) to the harder ones (2H and up) that we used for drawing. (My favourites are F grade ones, though, they are pretty smooth and soft and still don't smudge) The markers/fineliners look like Stadtler's and those, too, come in real thin, because when doing tech drawings you usually need real thin lines, too and be strict about the line thickness, because those are usually tied to certain things in those drawings (if that even makes any sense, I just got no better idea how to describe that🤦🏼‍♀️)

Hi Rae! Gouache work best as a creamy consistency. You use water to achieve that. Yes you can use water to make a "watercolor" with it, but you will get thiner color like you did ^^. The way I see gouache is the in between of watercolor and acrylic. You can get opaque results like acrylics and you can reactivate it with water like watercolor. Have fun ^^
