I remember seeing a bit of the kid having blood in his urine on TV. My dad changed the channel before figuring out what happened. I was in elementary school at the time. It kinda stayed in my brain ever since. Finally I now know after ten years.

The chess position was analyzed at agadmator's chess channel. Nate actually had a winning position despite the fact that he had a seizure.

The chess game was actually a very sweet bonding moment, especially when you consider the irony that the kid was pretty smug for someone who's about to win as he gets a seizure but would have lost anyway.

House is a jerk, but he's actually considered Chaotic Good/Chaotic Neutral. Unlike this kid, who is nothing more than just a jerk (as far as the episode shows). That's most likely why House didn't like him either.

I know that part where he pissed blood on the floor was supposed to be dramatic, but I laughed my ass off anyways. He was trying to be smug and dismissive and karma just hit back at him. That and the iron build-up.

Even at his absolute worst, House tries to either heal patients, or make his team better at their jobs. He understands some of the less uplifting realities of medicine and wants his team to accept them so they don’t have to battle with their consciences all the time.

That kind of a jerk is just a mythical creature we can't imagine.

House and the kid are playing, but what do they exactly show when they do so? Both seem to be very good at it, but when House moves his knight, the kid's smirk says it all. He thinks he has won. He thinks House, his opponet, is the one going down. But this chess match isn't a big deal. This chess match won't change anything important. What this chess match is, is, precisely, a small sacrifice. A bait. And by reacting in such an arrogant and aggressive way after he wins, the boy reveals much more about his character than what he could obtain by winning the game. House pays the prize of giving up this match, but by doing so... he gets to see how the person in front of him *really* is. He gains much more information. And the best thing, is that he doesn't even realize it. Basically, House made a celada, a chess ambush, with the chess game itself. Now that's beauty. Be careful with celadas, my friends. I've seen people who have been on dialysis suffer with late stage amyloidosis. These were people who had been dialyzed for years where they finally have had enough. I was there when he told his wife he didn't want to do this (dialysis) anymore. She did what she could and called their nephrologist in to talk him out of it. He did his best but the answer was no. I never saw him again that day. The nurses informed us he had passed 10 days later. RIP Kevin. You suffered greatly.
