A Bivy in the woods, using a DD Magic carpet as a shelter

After a hectic month away from the outdoors I returned for a quick Sunday night bivy before the school run, walked up to some woods that are close to the house, a low profile stealthy camp due to farmers tending sheep close by.

Hi Dave, thanks for watching, it’s my favourite set up just 140x 140 to cover your head if it rains, it’s just a pain to get changed in the morning if wet, so I upgraded to the s size 1.5x2.8 which you will see gives a canopy to get changed Cheers Adrian

Im thinking of buying one these for exactly the same reason you're using yours. I woke up in my bivi with wet all around my head from a heavy dew.

Hi and thanks for watching, it’s actually the perfect set up for any amount of wind as it’s solid, it keeps your head dry, but no shelter from weather and nowhere to change if it rains, Try it and see Cheers

@@northumberlandmountainhopper serious question. Am i the only person who walks and sleeps the same clothes? I know it sounds trampy, but saves so much weight, and means im up and away before anyone comes.

@@oscar38it’s a good point, I have been experimenting the last few camps where I change my trousers to the down ones and leave the rest as is, it works well, in the summer I find I sleep better in the thermals only so I do change, but I too have slept in the walking gear, just not often Cheers

Good to see you back out. Looks a good area to explore and camp in. Liking the set-up where you use a waterproof bivvy back with just a small tarp to cover your head.

@@northumberlandmountainhopper Hi, yes I agree, I love bivvy bags, I don't even own a tent now. I haven't used the umbrella yet, as it hasn't rained when I've been camping, but I carry one with me, and did try it before I went. I guess I'd find a way of attaching it to the bivvy somehow.

Hi, new subscriber here. You are a man after my own heart. I like nothing more than sleeping outdoors and chilling out. Unfortunately the farmers aroundabouts where I live (N. E. Lincolnshire) have zero tolerance and, I'm sure, in an ideal world would like to be able to exterminate walkers with a can of something nasty. Nevertheless I've found some spots where so far at least I've been able to spend time undisturbed. It's much easier of course when I go further afield to say, the Peak District, because there are vast tracks of open countryside to hide away in. I've really enjoyed your videos. Refreshingly honest and unaffected. Too many nowadays are little more than thinly disguised adverts for whatever free gear the protagonist has been sent. Well done and happy camping.

Thanks, I am sure the farmers up here would not like it, but it’s rolling hills so easy to use your torch etc without being seen, the local woods are my new go to camps as it’s so quick, back to the forest this Friday as I have the time,

I fully understand your indecision about filming the sunset or setting up camp, been there myself but ultimately always chose to set up camp as it'll bring me the most happiness and make things easier than setting up in the dark. Did you get any issues with midges I wonder? I haven't yet this year but this time last year they were everywhere. Nice short camp.

Hi and thanks for popping by, No midges yet where I have been but Harwood is alive with them !! And Friday I am back to the Harwood ditch as fancy a nice long chilled out camp, I have ordered a sea to summit nano single midge net so can fix it to the ridge line and escape 🤞can but try, can’t let the little b’s win can you !!
