But their completely different. Just because they’re both sketches doesn’t mean they are the same genre, these are more quirky and SNL is more satirical and bad on purpose for lack of better words. Like making fun of stereotypes and whatnot. You can’t really compare the two shows, it just depends on what you like.

I love the nod to Invisible Man by Ellison because there's only one black woman in the entire novel, and she's a "motherly" figure with a traditionally feminine role. It's a novel about invisibility and recognition, but Ellison ironically erases black women in his process of giving a platform to black men.

What's wrong with being feminine though? Why do women think that being like a man is progress/success? Men don't beg to be women..why do we put them up so high?
@Tea_Noire
@Tea_Noire 4 жыл бұрын
@@TruthAlwaysWins786 No one said femininity was wrong? They just said it was weird there was literally only one black woman (Sidenote: Ellison's view on women in general are kinda weird because there's a white woman in that novel that's overtly sexual toward the protag and she's painted as "slutty" and "cringy" despite not sleeping around oof) and she was a generic mother figure when women come in all shapes and sizes when it comes to how we express our womanhood.

@Sharon Tate - But who said anything about what white folks think of us? 😒 It's about how we feel about ourselves! How we portray ourselves to our own community. What kind of examples we set for our own youth - especially little black girls! It give me immense joy to see an entire sketch comedy show centered around, catered to, and ran by Black Women. But even better: it's SMART, sophisticated comedy! 🤩 This "ratchet" behavior you want us to keep celebrating has its place in comedy too, but we've also seen that already. A million times over. THIS show is giving us all something special. And our community deserves it.

Where are these people living pretending that skinny black women are less represented than fat black women o.o ?? The only thing is that when a curvy black woman does get represented, not just as some mockery but as a human worth loving or pretty, we celebrate it... I grew up in the 90's in France knowing who Naomi Campbell was... But I did not have a single positive representation of a curvy black woman (apart from my Mom who is the prettiest of course). The fashion industry completely erased us for DECADES, and the only +size clothes you could find were the ugliest things ever designed... Nowadays, the curvy women in general are finally tolerated (since someone realized fat women have money too) and shown, but the fact that we stand out when you see us doesn't mean we're MORE represented than anyone else...

Rachelle Gray Yep. Honestly one of the greatest minds of the past century. A literary icon. I’m an English major, and her work is by far the most developed voice I’ve ever heard. Writers like Donna Tartt and Bret Easton Ellis revert to a standard pattern, but Morrison’s command is remarkable. Sula and Beloved are both masterpieces, and her critical theory work is essential.
