This marks the final installment of our 1969 Chevy C50 ramp truck project. If you recall, this is the truck that we traded Big Red and a wad of cash for. We've put a lot of work into this ride including a complete wiring job, new front suspension, new brakes, a restored engine compartment and most importantly, a new Weiand 6-71 supercharger and dual Holley Double Pumper carbs. Now, we make her even more street friendly with the addition of a fresh 14-bolt rear axle from the dudes at Quick Performance. This axle has all he goodies for freeway flying and maximum wheelspeed burnouts; it's stuffed with a Yukon Grizzly locker, 35 spline axles, new seals and bearings throughout, and a 3.55:1 ring and pinion gearset.
We swapped axles right before making an 800 mile trip to Florida to pick up a pile of parts and a Toyota Mini-Truck from our friend Steve Shaw. This truck will become Newbern's next project, which I'm sure you'll see on this channel at some point. Thanks for watching. If you'd like some Finnegan Speed AND MARINE MERCH, go here:

Aren't higher ratios worse for fuel economy, and better for acceleration (but not top speed)?
@sheldonking4022
@sheldonking4022 3 жыл бұрын
@@trashbandit2449 Ratios are backwards usually. Larger number is a lower ratio, smaller number is a higher ratio. For instance a 4.10 is a lower gear than a 3.73.

@thatfordguy2268 3 жыл бұрын
The numbers you people are referring to are the number of rotations of the pinion gear. Hence 4.11 gives you four point one one rotations of the gear per 1 rotation of the rear wheels. Higher number is more rotations but limits top speed. Also keeps engine rpm higher causing the engine to work harder. Lower ratios 3.55, 3.33 give a lower rotation speed under acceleration but greatly improve top speed and fuel milage. Less rpm at the same mile per hour obviously will result in better fuel milage. Like my buddy's Trans Am we swapped the 3.73s for 4.11s. Gave it way more acceleration and low end torque but it was screaming topped out 115, it had nothing more. So we swapped to 3.55s. Ration was to low no low end torque just a turd. So we tried 3.90s and that was the magic number, 60s in less than 6 seconds and gets up to about 140ish. Like the difference between a big tire car and a small tire car. Higher number i.e. big tires =more acceleration Lower number i.e. small tires = top speed. You're welcome. 😒

Another v8 mini truck... I dig it!!! We must be cut from the same cloth Fin, I daily drive an ls swapped Nissan hardbody with an Ar5 trans and an 8.8 rear diff with LSD. It's lowered on blocks and the torsions turned down, Rollin on 17s, its hands down the funnest vehicle I've ever driven.

So we wont get any info on what happened on race week 2.0? Nothing? (Didn't watch the video yet, just judging by it not being the main topic/thumbnail)

Nope he hasn't posted a dam thing about it yet he followed them around in square force hawking merch and showing the car blown up to get cash from people at each track

@@stevenplaskett7728 lmao jeez chill on the entitlement... he can do whatever he wants? Specially if people want to see it. I mean look at you being a bitch on the internet, atleast the people at the track could see it blown up or not.. Plus this channels vids are posted way after it was filmed

Im sure that will come in a future video. This one was more likely filmed a while ago because iirc, he just sold this truck.

881 comments and, I did not go through all of them to find out if I am the first to mention that; You have a pack of overload spring leafs BUT, no stops for them. Just the funky U-bolts down to the main pack. Next to useless. The easiest way to change a rear axle is; jack the chassis way up and, roll it out on the wheels. Roll the new one in the same. It saves trying to muscle it up on the floor jack. The P-30 had notoriously bad ball joints. It was a "1 ton" chassis that was eventually rated up to 14,500 GVW.

So cool seeing y’all in my hometown. Under that red bridge, there’s a tiny island you can see called exchange island. It was a resort in the 80’s now reclaimed by the wild. Used to get pretty wasted there in high school. Miss that city

You could mount a manual transmission backwards behind the T-400. Leave in 4th gear (direct) for a 1 to 1 ratio. Put it in 3rd and it is an overdrive. Put in 2nd and now your setting land speed records if you’ve got the power.

I was only half watching until I saw the buildings, traffic bridges, walls, and the turn out of the tunnel. I know that intersection and I'm a Michigan guy. But we go to Florida for part of the winter and I have been around that sweeping turn many times, usually pulling our Ranger Tug..

I recently added cruise control to my 4G63 powered Datsun 510 using a vintage Audiovox unit. Rostra now makes that unit. It's simple and works on pretty much anything you want. You don't realize how nice cruise control is until you don't have it.

Ive welded a lot of axles and tongues on mobile homes , and a block or even two helps keep the tires from blowing out from rubbing the out riggers .......then you have a blowout on the road you got about thousand in-patient road ragers to deal with.....
