Man, you have a knack for showcasing simple concepts that can go a long way for begginers/intermediate players. I love it when I see your lessons and get a lot of mileage of the simple things I can already do, all the while sounding musical. The thing about practicing without context, or just focusing on the mechanical aspect (repeating licks, playing to a click), is that it can get boring or limiting, and because of that it can me frustrating. When it's musical though, if you have the right way to practice, it's waaaay more fun and useful, and makes the most of the practice time. I always give it a try and it reminds me that it can be fun to play even though I still have very limited vocabulary. If I just want to have fun with friends at least I get to apply these things and enjoy myself.

This lesson got me thinking: I often try restricting myself to certain areas of the fretboard and seeing how long I can solo and keep things interesting in a 12 bar. For example: soloing in the key of A and trying to outline the chord changes but only playing in frets 1 to 5. This really forces you to be creative with arpeggios, pentatonics, chord tones, chord fragments etc. Its amazing how much mileage you can get out of this idea. Might be worth a lesson. Keep up the great work Corey, you've got me thinking much more about my own creativity in terms of doing more with less.. Thanks.

Thanks so much for this one. I'm learning that I am one of those (extremely) rhythm challenged folks. It seems like such a simple topic... but, I think if it doesn't come naturally to you then it takes a lot of mental bandwidth to master it. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to break a finger or fall out of my chair trying to keep to the beat.

Excellent for bringing timing into account. Not just wondering around aimlessly and surprise why no musical melody arise? Respecting the rhythm (timing) that differentiate between melodius exercise and just noodling around. Thank you very much Chief. Cheers from Indonesia.

This is exactly what I have been struggling with, and you're the first person who has explained it in a way that I 'get.' I'm one of those people who know all my 5 pentatonic patterns etc etc etc, but can't string a blues solo together......because......my timing and phrasing is lacking. This lesson is a lightbulb moment for me, and I just watched your Albert King phrasing lesson and that helped immensely too. So....thank you!!!! Absolutely subscribed.
