Talon was resuscitated after his heart stopped while drowning for 10 minutes. Doctors say he now has locked-in syndrome, meaning he is aware of his environment but unable to communicate. Talon's family believes that if they surround him with constant love miracles are possible.

Those insurance companies get to me. That had to be a hard interview, hard to watch. Your so good at that. Sweet little guy. I had polio so that's all I knew, but Talon was a regular mischievous little boy and I wonder what he does remember. Anyone who has such a life changing event in the midstream of their life that does such physical destruction is unimaginable. My disability is nothing compared to LIS did not mean to compar.

My prayers go out to this family. Including Talons father. He isn't mentioned in the interview other than being there during the accident and it is none of my business. Gradual spontaneous recovery is something that happens with this syndrome. Couple that with his brain being so young and having such a long time where it’ll still be developing, AND add in regular therapies and a supportive family who keeps Talon’s brain active…I don’t know. I have some high hopes for talon. Might not be for five years. Maybe ten. Maybe 15. But people, ADULTS, have regained abilities after a decade or more with this syndrome. A developing brain and all this support must be meaningful.

To this family. My brother had a traumatic brain injury. We were told he would never regain any semblance of life. He was 30 years old. It took over 2 years but he regained everything. Your boy is so young, his brain is still developing. With enough stimulation and the right kind of stimulation I have no doubt your boy could see vast improvement. I worked every day with my brother. Thanks for covering anoxic brain injuries!! In my town this highschool cheerleader went to prom and had a severe asthma attack (possibly from the heat and crowdedness of the school gym etc) and tried to run out to her car to get her EpiPen or inhaler I'm not sure which one and collapsed before getting to her car and luckily someone was in the parking lot and called 911 but she was without oxygen for a decent amount of time her throat had closed up and has been on a long road of recovery since about 2019. She can't walk but has finally been able to say a few things and laugh which is good. But it's just crazy how something like asthma attack can effect your whole life. I implore people to read the true story, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, by Ronald Harwood. He suffered the same same syndrome, but had control over blinking one eye. Idk about everyone else, but I always end up in full sobbing tears everytime I watch any SBSK video, whether it has heavy topics involved or not. Growing up autistic with adhd and then later down the line with CPTSD, anxiety, and depression, my parents were basically devoid of love. So when I watch these videos and I see and feel such fiercely strong and amazing love all these parents have for their kids, I can't help but cry. Not only that, Chris' tender heartedness and extreme empathy moved me from the minute I saw my first SBSK video. I truly believe that the world could become a better place if we could just learn to accept each other and see value in another person's life, just for being alive, and not any "determining" factors. I love this family for fighting for Talon.... it must be even harder for him than it is for them, not being able to respond, but obviously hard for everyone... donating, and I truly hope the science continues to grow to provide more healing. The fact that he couldn't even move and now he can open eyes, moving himself, even a little, is hopefully foreshadowing for more good things.

@@aussiefurbymogwaifan6621 Hello, stranger. I hope you are well. What's the difference between the two, aside from semantics? I try and keep abreast of everything my/our community tries to implement, but this one stumps me. I have always referred to myself as non-verbal, although I do also say non-speaking sometimes, and I just can't work out what's wrong with that? I spent some time on The Google, but aside from personal preferences, nothing else came up for me. I could have just been searching for the wrong thing though. I would love to hear your perspective on this, as I'm always trying to update my language - if appropriate. Thanks for your time!

The best piece of life advice I got after my husband received a traumatic brain injury-Find your new normal and embrace it. I was able to move on when I stopped mourning our old life.
@FronteirWolf
@FronteirWolf 4 ай бұрын
Yes, it's normal to grieve your old life, you wouldn't be human if you didn't, if you just focus on that and how good that was and how bad now is, then you won't notice the good things about now and you will just be miserable. Even if it isn't a good life change, you don't need to feel down all the time about it. You can still enjoy your life.

Hope Talon's dad knows it's not his fault and he did what he could. As someone who accidentally (non-fatally but badly) hurt another person years ago, I somewhat get the trauma and sense of guilt and anger at yourself over it, but a family member would be even more painful. Hope the guy knows stuff sometimes just happens and all we can do is learn and not be upset with ourselves for those things.

Talon will make progress. Brain injury requires that we find new pathways around damaged areas and build new bridges. It takes a lot of time and it's exhausting. Sometimes we make strides millimeter by millimeter. Every step forward is a victory. Talon will get there. I believe in him! Would love a follow up on this family periodically. I’m rooting for talon. I’ve seen some documentaries on people with this. Some people can suddenly start to regain some muscle control. There’s a guy who can speak and use a wheelchair now and has made incredible advancements. Other people who can now speak using speech devices. He’s young. His body and brain is quite literally still developing. I’d say maybe that might give him an advantage even perhaps.

It’s always so sad when it’s something so preventable. Parents should take this as a sad, but cautionary tale. This is exactly why the American Academy of Pediatrics advises that children and teens under 16 years old should not ride or drive ATVs. Children under 16 account for 40% of ATV fatalities and accidents in the US. It’s estimated that about 4 kids go to the ER every hour for an ATV-related injury. I hope this little boy breaks free from this state. He deserves the world.
