Y'all fr debating a 16 year old boy smoking cigarettes vs his parents worried about his health? Wish I had "judgmental" parents that cared that much then
@AlexanderTheMiddle
@AlexanderTheMiddle Жыл бұрын
@@urultimatemaster The point is that even if the parents "would kill him" for smoking because it's bad for his health, the kid still knows they "would kill him", regardless of the reason why. So the kid does not tell the parents that he smokes. He even tries to quit on his own. You see, he seems to try to quit since he probably realises that it's bad for him. So his opinion on smoking is the same as the parents'. However, he knows that his parents "would kill him" regardless of the fact that he shares their health concernes. My point is that "I'm gonna kill him if he did ____" way of attempting to stop a kid from doing something is harmful. The kid is likely to still do the prohibited thing, but they would then try and deal with consecuences on their own, since they cannot seek help from their parents. Which means they are likely to mess up even more.

My husband is working in the horror industry and he absolutely loved House's pratical effects. It's REALLY hard to make realistic burns and it does require a talented person. These unsung heros of movies are such amazing down to earth ppl who talk to fan's. I have to admit I baised towards Del Toro but I admit to the flare for the very dramatic color tones in Crimson Peaks. Burn surgeon in training here: Yes, even after we do autografts (skin grafts from the patient's own skin) or allografts (donor skin grafts), the patient will have a long recovery to go before the skin starts to set in and for the body to accept the new skin. From far away, you can barely notice a proper skin graft. Up close, it is definitely noticeable. Lesson learned: don't get burned lol
@vikramm.6743

yes, skin grafts take a very long time to blend with normal skin and tend to leave noticeable scars for several years. The scars would eventually fade with age but I doubt the signs would completely disappear in his lifetime.

Somebody who is depressed can’t be assumed to be compelled to act a certain way based on their premorbid state. Depression warps everything about you. Compels you to hide and to be secretive. To put on a mask to protect those you love. Someone whose abusing antidepressants would develop serotonin syndrome, if the adverse effects of the medicine don’t kill them first. Not even parents can assume they know everything about their child when they are depressed. Or whatever the reason for their abuse of medicines is. Depression can’t always be observed even by those closest to you because you’ll do anything to hide it.

When people try to be a drug DJ and mix Tramadol with basically anything else it's a very realistic and possible scenario, this drug has a very bad reputation for that, some drug users are dumb enough to ignore the warning when absolutely every source on information on mixing for various effects will tell you that Tramadol will send you straight to serotonin syndrome. Super rare, but not when you're going to be deliberately stupid.

I was involved in a fire when I was 17. I was 25 miles from the hospital. I remember being driven there, I remember being rushed back into the er and given 10 trillion shots, then I woke up in St Johns Burn Unit. It was one of the worst days of my life. I wasnt as bad as this kid. I had 2nd degree burns on 25% of my body, from between my nipples and belly button to above my eyebrows. For months I would relive it every time I went to sleep. I would wake up screaming, had to go to the hospital multiple times having panic attacks. I was burned badly enough where it scabbed up in many places. Recovery took around 4-6 of the worst months of my life. I wouldnt wish burns on anybody. Just watching this made me feel physically ill. Edit: I was feeling so sorry for myself... Until my first appointment, where I had to sit in a waiting room with 15 other burn victims for over an hour, all of us on as much drugs as they could give us. Everyone was telling their story. Sitting in that room and seeing an 8 year old without facial features that was involved in a car fire, a 40 year old lineman that touched a live wire and lost half his hand and foot, a teenage girl that was frying food on her stove and had the pot fall and cover her from the pelvis down. That room still haunts me to this day, and made me stop feeling bad for myself and got me too be grateful that my own injuries werent worse.

Now, years later, with a new doctor, she's like "yeah, I doubt it. That's anxiety tics, let's get you back on meds." If it were the serotonin syndrome, the tics would have gone away, but I'm still having them, over 2 years later, and they're definitely not going away anytime soon.

My cousin Tyler Allen Alexander got badly burned like that, over 90% of his body. And I don’t know why but they did the same thing and woke him from his coma too soon, he was in so much pain that he ended up having a heart attack, it killed him. He was only 16 years old. Fast forward 15 years and his sister had a baby that she named in memory of him Alexander Tyler Johnson. Unfortunately the baby’s father ended up brutally murdering him just days after he was born, he’s now spending the rest of his life in prison. RIP to both my cousin Tyler and his nephew Alexander. Sad stuff that happened to them both. _(And yes my cousin’s Victoria & Tylers’ last name was the baby’s first name. Idk why she used her last name as her child’s first name. My uncle’s first name (their dad) is Allen which is my cousin Tyler’s middle name. I guess they all just like to do weird things with their names.)_

It's a shortcut. They decided the answer to the mystery would be "smoking" so they had to give ol' House a way of detecting that. A cigarette burn is nice and obvious and persists for a long time, it's an easy sign to put in the script. Could you think of a better way to indicate the kid smokes? That said, yeah it's bullshit, but they couldn't think of a better solution and neither can I.

I had serotonin syndrome once when going back on sertraline. I had all those symptoms you mentioned (especially the temperature regulation issues, I was feeling like I was burning up and freezing at the same time), and it increased by anxiety through the roof! Luckily I knew what SS was and its symptoms (I think through seeing it dramatised on either House or some other medical show) because after a day or two of this I called my GP up and she wanted to _increase_ my dosage!! I ignored her and stopped taking them and recovered a few days later. I realised later what the trigger was. A few weeks prior to going to the doctor to get a prescription I'd been taking St John's Wort. Being a 'traditional herbal remedy' bought off the supermarket shelf I didn't think much of it and my Dr hadn't asked so I didn't think to bring it up. Turns out St John's Wort is actually a MAOI and interacts really really badly with SSRIs. I'd even stopped taking the St John's Wort a week prior to taking the Sertraline again, thinking it would be enough time to clear out of my system. Turns out I was wrong lol.
