Went to the 60 anniversary events of operation Market Garden in 2004 in Oosterbeek near Arnhem and had a Veteran cry in front of me and all I could was give him a big hug and say these guys will never be forgotten.

And to think the composer actually took part in Operation Market Garden .Hits the mood of expectation ,early exultation then the sadness at its climax . A Fantastic score and this rendition magnificent .

Green Howards - fine regiment, good on your great uncle. I have a Jeep and I love playing this music, as it reminds me of James Caan zooming around in his Jeep avoiding German bullets in a Bridge too Far.

This is how the national anthem is meant to be played, as a rousing military march by a band. Not warbled off-key by some pop singer who doesn't have the vocal range for the song.

My all-time favorite war movie!!! The theme offers so much hope to ending the war and being home by Christmas. If OpM-G had done that, the Soviets would not have had much of Eastern Europe in their clutches for 40+ years.

We played a version of this tune in The City Of Hull Youth Brass Band. It was probably a simplified version and not quite as good as this , but I think the original Film version must have been played by an orchestra rather than a Brass Band because I’m sure there are string instruments 🎻 in it and not just brass🎺 and wind 💨 🎷 instruments in it, I’m sure?

Wind band of the Dutch Railways -- Sadly this allied campaign was unsuccessful and was followed by the "Starving Times" in the Netherlands. I don't know about the Dutch, but few Americans, other than myself, are aware of the "Starving Times". Thank goodness all of the combatants on both sides are now friends and at peace.

the BBC did a documentary about it a few years ago. I remember a Newsreel with a Dutch boy about 10 years old, wiping a large empty cooking pot with his fingers and sucking, sucking them get every last morsel. A man who was a child at the time, told how, through the Red Cross British aircraft were allowed to drop food and how the German anti-aircraft guns were tracking them but did not fire - at which point he broke down and cried.

American here….Canada ended the starving times when they liberated the Netherlands. As with American cemeteries in Netherlands, the Dutch have never forgotten and remain grateful to Canada. In Ottawa is a garden near parliament filled with tulips…which the have exported to Canada as a gift since WWII. They also adopt US soldiers graves…most in the care of the same family…since WWII. T Dutch will never forget those who gave all for their liberation. As far as I know they are the only nation in Europe that does this. Amazing 🇺🇸🇳🇱🇨🇦🇬🇧

???? God bless the musicians here....but the "Windband of the Dutch Railways????" There's more than one railroad in the Netherlands?????? I'm a huge rail fan here in the US and I'm not aware that BNSF, or Union Pacific, or Norfolk Southern, or CSX, or Kansas City Southern, or Canadian Pacific, or Canadian National has their own orchestra, or even a collective one between them all....still, an outstanding soundtrack from an outstanding movie......well done! PS: Amtrak doesn't count; they just get in the way of REAL trains, and outside of the NE corridor, they mooch trackage on the PRIVATELY owned rails by the real railroads

The united states is pulling forward to the bridge. The germans army has no idea. The u.s. Army pulls in and attacks. The british then pull in and fire there stems and then the germans fire but the U.S. is defeated because they tried to end the war by christmas and this was in the netherlands and comanderd by as and waffles officers. The point was to try to end the war by christmas. This battle was in 1944. I am 11 years old and im very smart because im not stupid.

Yes they wanted to end the war by Christmas, but this would have been desired by the Dutch as well. This was a British led campaign that was uncharacteristically chancy. Much praise is warranted by the soldiers who fought and died, along with Dutch patriots, in the attempt to make the flawed plan succeed
