And to think the composer actually took part in Operation Market Garden .Hits the mood of expectation ,early exultation then the sadness at its climax . A Fantastic score and this rendition magnificent .

My all-time favorite war movie!!! The theme offers so much hope to ending the war and being home by Christmas. If OpM-G had done that, the Soviets would not have had much of Eastern Europe in their clutches for 40+ years.

This is how the national anthem is meant to be played, as a rousing military march by a band. Not warbled off-key by some pop singer who doesn't have the vocal range for the song.

???? God bless the musicians here....but the "Windband of the Dutch Railways????" There's more than one railroad in the Netherlands?????? I'm a huge rail fan here in the US and I'm not aware that BNSF, or Union Pacific, or Norfolk Southern, or CSX, or Kansas City Southern, or Canadian Pacific, or Canadian National has their own orchestra, or even a collective one between them all....still, an outstanding soundtrack from an outstanding movie......well done! PS: Amtrak doesn't count; they just get in the way of REAL trains, and outside of the NE corridor, they mooch trackage on the PRIVATELY owned rails by the real railroads

We played a version of this tune in The City Of Hull Youth Brass Band. It was probably a simplified version and not quite as good as this , but I think the original Film version must have been played by an orchestra rather than a Brass Band because I’m sure there are string instruments 🎻 in it and not just brass🎺 and wind 💨 🎷 instruments in it, I’m sure?

Wind band of the Dutch Railways -- Sadly this allied campaign was unsuccessful and was followed by the "Starving Times" in the Netherlands. I don't know about the Dutch, but few Americans, other than myself, are aware of the "Starving Times". Thank goodness all of the combatants on both sides are now friends and at peace.

American here….Canada ended the starving times when they liberated the Netherlands. As with American cemeteries in Netherlands, the Dutch have never forgotten and remain grateful to Canada. In Ottawa is a garden near parliament filled with tulips…which the have exported to Canada as a gift since WWII. They also adopt US soldiers graves…most in the care of the same family…since WWII. T Dutch will never forget those who gave all for their liberation. As far as I know they are the only nation in Europe that does this. Amazing 🇺🇸🇳🇱🇨🇦🇬🇧
