As far as I know, the traditional one is made from the wood, designed like a beach thongs and if I'm not mistaken, it's quite noisy when we use it to walk on the hard ground. The socks for Japanese shoes are special designed too, between foot thumbs and other foot fingers is separated and it's up to ankle
