A Busy Afternoon At CN Battle Creek Yard- 9/12/2017

We stopped by the yard Tuesday 9/12/17 around 1:30 PM and left at about 3:30 PM and we had the GTW 5934 an SD40-3 assembling the west local that switches between Battle Creek and Edwardsburg IN and the Blue GTW 5936 assembling an eastbound auto rack train. Saw several other trains passing by over on the main track, with the view blocked by the yard trains. This is not my best footage., it is what it is! The EPA needs to moderate their restrictions and allow EMD to continue making their 567, 645 and 710 2-stroke prime movers. With the SD40-2s still going strong after 40 years, while a lot of newer the GE Dash 7s appear to have been scrapped, this says a lot about the reliability of EMD's original 2-stroke design. And finally, let's admit: They just look and sound better than a General Electric toaster!

SD40-2 or 3 5936 still looks excellent in it's Grand Trunk livery. I hope CN isn't in any hurry to repaint it.

Actually CN painted it into the Grand Trunk scheme as a heritage unit!

Well the last time I counted there are at least believe it or not more the 50 locomotives with the Grand Trunk Western paint Scheme but I get all my facts at HeritageUnits.com

Thanks again for watching and commenting! I count 43 engines wearing GTW paint if you do not include the 5942 in gray zebra paint. I did not realize there were even that many still out there! I have been out of the GTW rail fan loop for quite a few years. Some where around here I have the GTW locomotive roster from 1990. If I find it I'll share the info. I never did catch your name by the way?
