We’re digging a new mouth for the Don River in the Port Lands. It was easier and safer to excavate the new river valley without any water in it. As we get ready to flood the newly constructed river, let’s go for an imaginary paddle before any water is added.
You can explore the VR world shown in this video by clicking on the 360 icons in the map found here: portlandsto.ca...
To learn more about how we’ll flood the river valley, watch this video: • How We’re Going to Flo...

Perfect! Thanks for posting, it is great to see this "before" video, well done! I love the engineering behind the buried tree trunks, exposed roots to help stabilize the river banks. Directly opposite Toronto, across Lake Ontario, in the Town of Lincoln, we lost almost a thousand feet of public beach because of the removal for the fallen trees and trunks from the shoreline. This was done to allow shoreline work on private property, access for heavy equipment. Within 3 years 75% of the public beach was washed away, booooo!

I wish they would knock down the unused smokestacks etc and plant some trees to help block the view of the industrial structures that remain.

The only problem I can see with this park system is that the whole city will flood to use it (see what I did there? ).

Of course, this “city within a park” doesn’t have all that many parks you can walk though. This opens a huge part of the waterfront. Not only for residents, but tourists too. Can only imagine all the wildlife and migratory birds flooding this area too, it’s awesome

I hope they clean up the debris and construction materials from the river bed before it's flooded.

This video was taken in the fall while work was still ongoing on the riverbed. After work was completed (and materials removed) we started flooding the river on January 31.

I'm curious how the water once released made its way under Villiers Street@@WaterfrontToronto We've been down there a few times since the release started & again today (Feb 18th) and it appeared to be blocked under there. So we've yet to figure it out. Did you create a dam of sorts under the road?

I'm not sure where we started and where we're going in this video. South toward the lake?? I can't get my bearings. Otherwise I think it will be wonderful

I believe we travelled from west to east, beginning just past the south Cherry St. bridge. At the end, we turned to face north, stopping just before Commissioners St. bridge.

And how much is this costing the taxpayers? I was part of the first phase of pouring concrete, and it took twice as long as it should have. Which cost taxpayers twice as much. Anytime the government has their hands on, anything costs more money.
