I really appreciate how much care went into this whole project. Its not everyday we create a new river, they really needed to get it right the first time. Its not like they just took a big excavator, gouged a trench, and said "there's yer river." They thought about the size and types of stones on the riverbed, how to encourage fish spawning habitats, how to secure the river against future flooding, etc. Incredible work! Can't wait to visit.

Long overdue for a fantastic display of human ingenuity to get the Don back to what it should have always been. Great work folks!! Love it.

Is this going to clean up the Don River and make it usable again? Also, this project is awesome for the city, defintley a game changer. It will be exciting to see all the development in the area in the coming decades.

It's really up to mother nature how things will play out in the coming years. I know from my godmother when they tried to fix the Grand River from flooding every Winter/Spring which worked for a couple of years mother nature didn't like and after a couple of years of success things went back to normal.

Hydro Québec was heavily criticized for not removing trees propr to flooding the James Bay project reservoirs in the 1970s since the decaying wood is still releasing high levels of mercury. So quite puzzled on why you would actively put tree trunks in the riverbed.
@SharonRaeRyan
@SharonRaeRyan 5 ай бұрын
Nope. That's not how that works. The mercury from Hydro Québec has to do with that project being a hydroelectric reservoir, which this is not. Standard tree decay does not release high levels of mercury, or every river running through a forest would be filled with it.

They were shooting video with a drone but they failed to get up high enough to video a good overview of what course the river was taking as it made it’s way down into the lake. The video itself is confusing as to what the river now looks like because of all the short bits of video and scenes from a whole bunch of different perspectives. It jumps from one location to another opposite location leaving the viewer confused as to what it now all looks like. Other than a failed video attempt I am glad that they have finally resolved the poor stagnant river mouth that has been like that for what seems like ages or so we are led to believe!! It seems that maybe they have resolved that issue and can now finally put that one to bed!!! Good job Public Works Dept!!!! Thankyou!!!

Oh you the small cubicles boxes 📦 that cant fit anything inside not mentioning the constant clastaphobia living in a small space. Also did u know condos are the number cause of divorce because theres no breathing space unlike a house where u can move around freely lol more like condos that no one will be living in high rent prices lol housing market is on the way to crashing soon there's so many empty condo units & ppl selling their units for less than what they paid for its a prison hell once the mortgage is paid off ur still paging maintenance fees & that goes up every year eventually it will be $3000 and up just on maintenance fees LOL GET DAT GARBAGE 🗑 OUTTA HERE

This is why the salmon haven't spawned in the don for the last 3 yrs?
@vtek2508

One of many challenges the fish face, however, prime spawning habitat up river and access to it are the major reasons the returns are very low. Also, the ministry treats them as a put and take fishery and they don't really care about natural reproduction.
