My Palax Combi 600 I bought secondhand in 1996 for £2500 off Jas Wilson and it has not even had a belt renewed. I fitted a 3 phase motor which is quiet and fume free but it can be tractor mounted and I have fitted a removable drawbar and wheels for working away. Circular saw is a fast cutter and easy to take off but stays sharp for ages. 10 inch diameter logs, will just do 12 inch but quite frankly anything bigger just becomes too cumbersome. I fitted a foot operated lever for the splitting ram as not all the wood is perfectly straight and sometimes falls sideways so the auto is not so good but easily put back into action if necessary. Perfect machine for me, thank you Palax

For me personally I’d much prefer a circular saw

If their connected to an old tractor, then again was is more forgiving and wont stall the tractor, while the sircular saw often do, when using 50-70 HP tractors

I would say that one question is if it will become stationary or if it will be moved around. Then there is the possibility to use (why wouldn't one?) HM-chains on a bar-machine. But yes, the chain makes about three times more "sawdust". There is the possibility to use vegetabile oil if it's in use all the time?

Bar and chain for me, can cut bigger circumference and more awkward logs.

Sure both a great machine, but for decades now you still have to stand right next to it. After a long day you dont feel great. You guys have to work more on automation
