Wow what memories - I love the line 'The reason for the line outside the Shubert Theatre? The line INSIDE the Shubert Theatre.'

grew up in Queens NYC- in the 80s these commercials would show on channel 11 WPIX........I had NO refrence as to what the fck they were talking about or singing about- this was soooooo strange to me- but I couldn'y not watch or imitate the chorus line commercials. Man this dope!

I remember growing up in New Jersey back in the late 70's early 80's these Broadway commericals came on 11Alive and channel 5.

Another thing: The "zipper" atop the entrance to the Shubert was controlled by a "copy changer" unit by Time-O-Matic (now WatchFire Signs), dated to 1968, that spit out perforator tape in the shape of the letters and numbers you saw scroll along that sign, all connected to a Teletype Model 33 (that is, with Baudot / Murray / ITA2 technology, rather than the later ASCII). That same control was also used starting in late 1969 on the Canadian Club billboard at the back of the 1560-1564 Broadway block, and would be in use after Suntory (on two occasions) and Midori respectively advertised in that spot. By the time "A Chorus Line's" run at the Shubert ended in 1990, however, the zipper's controls were from a circa 1976 Time-O-Matic computer-based "Public Information Display" which was also used, at the time, on both (after 1978) the Coca-Cola zipper on 47th and Broadway, and (with double-stroke type) on that of the Grand Pussycat Theatre on Broadway between 48th and 49th Streets.

I remember watching this commercial hoping I would get a phone call to play TV PiXxx.

Saw this commercial a thousand times on afternoon TV during cartoons after school in the 1970s. What demographic were they after? Anyways, every kid in my school knew the "Gimme the ball gimme the ball gimme the ball, YEAH!" line by heart. In spite of all this and in spite of loving musicals, I have never seen this one and still have no desire to.

In order on the second commercial: Donna McKechnie (Cassie), Ronald Dennis (Richie), Pamela Blair (Val) and Wayne Cilento (Mike). Voiceover by Norman Rose. Remember that ad, and seeing it again brought back memories of the sequence. This ad was run in at least three other cities: Chicago, Los Angeles and Atlanta. I know "Gimme The Ball," and the excerpt of "Dance: Ten; Looks: Three" - not to mention "One" - but where would Mike's scat have come from, and what number was Cassie kicking her heels to?

Only my view alone. Saw this commercial numerous times, after school, in the early 1980's. Though I was in Elementary School, I found it an embarrassment to watch. I've never seen it, even after reading the plotline. Watching Will Ferrell tribute it, in the "Land of the Lost" movie, reinforced my embarrassment of it. I'm sorry, but all the ones auditioning for the Chrous Line, make fools of themselves.
