Funny story - A while back I needed to make some sturdy shopping bags and my husband bought me a spool of Kevlar thread on line. When setting the tension, it is always important to do the bobbin case tension first. Your upper tension should be backed right off and then when testing, do a good half/full turn of the knob when adjusting. Sew about 20 stitches, check front and back. Initially you should see bobbin thread to the top and as you increase the top tension, this will move to the back of the fabric. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Gary, could you address a problem for me? I'm trying out a Brother Nouvelle 1500S for FMQ on my frame. My thread is shredding, so I will change the needle and see; What stitch length do you set it at for FMQ, normal thread tension for quilting on a frame that has a quilt made up of quilting cottons/batting/backing. The foot tension to match feed dogs down, done. When should you adjust bobbin tension - if at all?
@EchidnaClub
@EchidnaClub 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Denise, it is important to always check your bobbin tension first and set your bobbin, you would then adjust your top tension. Increase your top tension until you can see your bobbin thread coming through to the top. Then with half turns of the tension disc, back off your tension until it sits evenly. Test your tension by doing zig zags and circles or loops. The stitch length is controlled by you so you will need to increase or slow down the stitch speed according to how fast you are moving your quilt. Hope this helps :)

Hi looking at getting this machine. I sew did harnesses so I need a narrow foot to get close to the hardware. What foot would I get ? I have looked and they say for light fabrics. I am from Australia and hope to buy from ur site in a few weeks as well as the presser foot that would be ideal for I am doing

Hi Tina, there is a Narrow foot you can purchase as an extra. Here is a link: www.echidnasewing.com.au/brother-narrow-foot-for-pq1500sl-115c04e7005 The standard sewing foot is narrower than a standard domestic sewing machine as well.

@@EchidnaClub thank you. I just note that in the paragraph it states it’s for light weight fabrics. I guess I just don’t want to purchase this machine if it’s not going to do what I am would want it for. Which in my care is heavy weight items and wanting to see close to buckles with overlapping webbing.

Agree it's a fantastic machine, just love sewing on mine. Buttonholes on this machine are just perfect and the extensive range of industrial feet (so cheap too!!) make it a great all rounder. Hint...your test drive would be easier to see with a contrast thread...white thread on white fabric is almost impossible to see, sorry.

@EchidnaClub
@EchidnaClub Жыл бұрын
When you next get it serviced you can get the technician to have a look at it for you. Sometimes it is the springyness of the thread which causes it to come unthreaded, and sometimes the high tension on the thread as well.

Hi Nelly, it can be your thread or your tension being too high.

Also, wait a second or two before pressing the thread cutter button...this gives the thread a chance to relax before cutting and it doesn't spring back out of the eye.

Any machine with moving parts has to be oiled, if not you won't get good results. Train your ear to 'listen' to the machine, when the tone changes it needs a drop of oil. Too easy!

I wouldn't recommend it for making bags. It hates going fast on straps, if you go fast you have skipped stitches. It hates anything too thick, especially top stitching around the top of bags. I've tried different needles that Echidna has sold me but I'm still not impressed. I've played with the tensions to try and get stitches even but am not satisfied with the stitching.
