My son and I take our trailerable sailboat to lake Coeur d' Alene for an early winter overnight trip. The temperatures drop but it doesn't stop us from sailing, hiking, and watching a ton of bald eagles.

I really appreciate that you stop to take in the beauty, and bring us along with you. I have a Capital Yachts Neptune that is identical to yours- color and all. Such a fun boat- just big enough for my son and I. Maybe you’ll take us on a Waldo Lake adventure in the spring- just need to swap out the 4 stroke for a trolling motor, but it’s totally worth it.

That would be fun! Is that lake in Oregon?

Love it! I don’t believe I’ve seen that side of the lake. Just the resorty area. Nice!

Thanks, it’s definitely a more secluded part of the north end. Good anchorages!

Fabulous content. Great filming and landscape and you have a great pace to your editting. A showcase for pocket cruising. Happy Times with a dad and son in that peaceful space. Keep it up and thanks. 👍

Thank you I appreciate that. We are learning as we go and having fun with it! I really like your style of artwork . The bold lines and watercolor combination is vibrant and detailed but also simple and beautiful.

Well...i have just discovered your sailing channel.... absolutely loved this video..the content..the filming...and the spot you moored for the night...would make a massive difference if you lined the cabin with very thin carpet or something similar..keep the vids coming... excellent..👍👏👏

Thank you so much! We are having fun documenting our adventures. Trying to improve on each video. I will have to try a hull liner of some sort to keep us dry. Thanks for the suggestion!

You do a very nice job pausing/lingering on a scene long enough for the viewer to absorb your message. Your videography is exceptionally well done. And you have an attractive message/brand. If your goal is to build your channel, my opinion is you are hitting on all cylinders. I’m a current blue water sailor and you certainly have my attention. Well done, Sir!

I really appreciate your kind encouragement! It was perfect timing. We definitely hope the channel will grow and have a positive influence on people’s lives. I know my life was changed for the better when I was introduced to the sailing community so showing what we do and the amazing world we live in is one way I can give back!!

We live in Meridian Idaho. I am thinking a Montgomery 17 when we retire from the big boat sailing. (We are currently lying in Fiji.) We’ll have to seek you out someday for a buddy boat trip somewhere up here in the northwest.
@ruddyducksailing8 ай бұрын
For sure, that would be a lot of fun! In the meantime enjoy the warm tropical paradise on the big boat!!!

Maybe you could to do a video from Fiji next June as our guests? It’s fantastic cruising. Just keep us out of the Tube pics!

Wow! Great videos. It must take a lot of work to get all those shots (and edit it together). I am jealous with this one - I wanted to do a trip like that with my son this fall but we kept having really high winds so it was unsafe.
@ruddyducksailing8 ай бұрын
Yes it does take a lot of work but I enjoy it. Filming gives me a outlet to be creative and somehow makes me slow down and take in the world around me to a greater extent as I’m hyper focused on my surroundings and ( getting the shot). Thanks for watching and do as many trips as you can with your son when it’s safe! Time goes fast.

Nice! My hat is off to you going sailing in those temps!! I never really thought about sailing your lake because heard it was wall to wall houses around the lake but obviously not after watching your vids. Could you recommend a good launch point and also good to leave trk/trlr for a week/10day exploration of your lake. Looking forward to your next vid, also really liked your vid on synthetic rigging definitely 5 stars.

Thanks, we had fun! As far as a good place to leave a vehicle and trailer I do not know. I had my wife drop us off! Unfortunately the lake is very commercialized and there are 10-20$ a day launch fees and 72 hour limits on parking at all the launches I've been to. I usually stay off the lake cause its so busy and yeah "wall to wall houses" in most places. But there are some hidden gems like where we went in beauty bay up north and the south end is supposed to be pretty secluded also but haven't been there yet in the sailboat. I will do some research as I would like to sail the rest of the lake and leave a truck for awhile without paying a fortune or getting towed. I'll let you know if I find anything.

you know life is good when you have a trailer sailor, and time for it. *and if you haven't already,* another good mod, ( that might pay for itself in saved fuel ) , is; measure up the ruddy duck, to enter all the information in Online Marine Prop Calculators, ( match a prop to the hull )...the fuel saving depends on how much different a matched prop is than the one that's already on there.... even if it's close enough to stick with the one on there, it's still nice to know what a matched prop is, ( for such the occasion that you need one ) i imagine your wrapping it up for the year now, so that is something to have figured over the winter. and that SpeedCoat-49 saves fuel, And time ... well, you can get where you're going faster, or sail further in the same day.
@ruddyducksailing8 ай бұрын
Great suggestion! It feels like the motor would like a more torquey prop but I’ll do the calculations. Is speed coat faster than waxed gelcoat?
@RulgertGhostalker8 ай бұрын
that made me wonder if there is a Hydrophobic Wax Yet??? And It Turns Out There Is !!!----> 'Gyeon Q2 Wax'
@RulgertGhostalker8 ай бұрын
there is also a hydrophobic marine specific product called "Glidecoat Marine Shine & Shield" .... it's the hydrophobocity of any coating that will make the ruddy duck surf easier, and get better fuel efficiency.
@RulgertGhostalker8 ай бұрын
speedcoat-49 was the first hydrophobic, ( bottom paint only product ), but it looks like the market is exploding with hydrophobic options now...@@ruddyducksailing
@RulgertGhostalker8 ай бұрын
look around at the Hydrophobics anyway. as the prop goes, that's like tuning the prop to match the hull...or the ideal pitch x diameter for the hull .. either side of the calculated ideal will move the water less efficiently. @@ruddyducksailing

Lovely Video - I thinking of Sailing “over there” with my Catalina 22. Which boat ramp did you use? Wes from Yakima….
@ruddyducksailing6 ай бұрын
Hey Wes. Thanks for watching. We used the Higgins point boat launch which is a pretty nice facility . I believe it was $10 a day. Located at the northeast end of the lake.

Beautiful. BTW do you have any suggestions for sailing classes in Idaho?
@ruddyducksailing8 ай бұрын
Thank you. I have not taken any classes but there are a number of options depending on what you’re looking for. For introduction to sailing NIC college offers classes and there’s an organization called fun to sail that I believe teaches sailing. There’s also an ASA instructor in Bayview that can qualify you for ocean sailing and charters.
