I live eat and breath .22 rifles and the 10/22 is my favorite. you can improve its accuracy with least amount of effort by polishing the sear engagement surfaces and improve extraction (the problem you had on the second shot) by polishing the face of the extractor claw. very simple to work on and if you screw something up,very cheap to buy parts for because these little guns are everywhere. I love this gun!

Ruger 10/22 is a must have for every american. I'd also recommend having 1,000 available rounds for the rifle at all times. You never know when you'll need it.

Dave Check out the marlin 70, it also is a bombproof 22. It has a tube fed magazine that holds fourteen rounds and costs less than 180.00. It is also made in the US, Kentucky to be exact.

I got a good deal on one of those 22s that fits inside the plastic stock. Thought it was mainly a toy until I put it together and shot the thing. Was impressed with the accuracy as well as how well it cycled. Only thing it wouldn't cycle was some 22 shorts I had, but I'd jack the bolt and it'd fire the round. These little rifles remind me of the single shot bolt I grew up with. Forget the comment about your vids. One of the things I like about your channel is the variety. Keep up the good work.

I have used a Marlin .22LR carbine and loved it. Easy to tote around, easy too clean, also very reliable. I also have used Thompson Contender. Another interesting gun. Love the channel and the info provided. The area where I used too live was sparsely populated and in the middle of the forest with lots of game. A reliable weapon was required too live and survive there. Early morning hours meant the possibility of running into a Black Bear in the back yard.

I have several of the 25 round mags from Rugger that I use in my 10-22 conversion to 17 mac 2 so 10-17 and have shot well over 200 rounds with this rifle single shot and rapid fire and have never had a single malfunction. These mags are great. Super buy Dave.

Winchester HV power points do drop deer with a single head shot. Many times been walking for late afternoon rabbits and come across a group of fallow deer feeding, very cheap way to fill the freezer. Dave I would recommend to you a cz 452 super match, with ten shot mag this rifle is bulletproof, regardless of weather conditions and 2nd hand they are very common man priced, and they come factory with real good open sights and accurate, very popular in Australia. Happy hunting

Hey Dave! On the subject of the 10 22, I don’t know if you have already come across it, but you might be interested in a Ruger 10 22 Mod called the Airow, basically it's just a replacement Barrel that you load a Xbow bolt into powered by a 22lr Blank it's supposed to fire over 400 fps apparently, could be another way to augment the 10 22s sustainability, and 22lr blanks are dirt cheap, maybe you could put one through its paces, and see if it's worth adding to the kit, Best wishes my friend

23 years ago I bought a Charter Arms AR-7 for backpacking. Except for the stock and bore, it was all aluminum. Jammed at the drop of a hat. It did me a favor by falling off the tractor and smashing it.Bought a newer model AR-7 made with steal instead of recycled beer cans. Haven't been able to jam it. The best "survival" rifle by far was my Mark 4, but as you know brother, it went to my grandson along with a Hudson Bay tobacco tin and a very, very special knife. ;~)>

I don't know Dave's pick, but I would say go with the .22lr. The lack of recoil & noise make it much easier to learn to shoot, and normally the ammunition is much cheaper. (Right now the .22 situation is ridiculous, but it will get back to normal eventually.) The Mossberg 500 is a great gun, very versatile, very reliable & very durable!

Nice review,i just picked up the ruger 10/22 takedown and it is great to see it on your website. The rifle comes in a case with 3 compartments,1 for stock, 1 for barrel and 1for scope.I put the limbs for my takedown recurve in #3 and the riser in the space between. Zipped right up and into the pack it went. Now how do I carry arrows safely? Inside a waking stick is all I can come up with, bamboo stick.crossbow video was great to,have the same one but with composite stock, lite dependable breaksdown

This is just one persons opinion. You channel has always been about self reliance and nothing screams self reliance like a reliable gun. This falls well within your philosophy of reliance. This also allows you new directions to take your teachings. I LOVE when you do common man weapons, and would be upset to see them go. This also is learning for those with a ear to do so.

Great video, Dave! I love my 10/22s. If you like iron sights, but want something better than the stock sights, try a good peep sight and blade front sight combo. I bought a sight set from Brownells. The part number is 100-006-910. These sights are similar to those on the M16. I didn't like the tapered sight that came with the set, so I put in a new insert (part number 923-000-055). The sights are easily adjusted with this tool (part number 078-000-010). Try them; you will like them.

That Magazine works great AFTER you file or dremel down the feed lip. It does not like Hollow point ammo and tends to crush or squish the rounds. Little lube and a little filing, but I bet you already did this. Just my experience with the mag. Thank you for your hard work, God bless.

Not bad shooting Dave, for either offhand or kneeling and shooting that quickly at 25 yards! I have a Marlin 795 .22lr. I paid $130.00 + tax new, then got a $25.00 rebate on it. It's only a ten shot, but very reliable, accurate and lightweight at that common man's price. The only thing I don't like about the Marlin 795 is that it won't fire hyper-velocity loads like the stinger, because it has only one recoil spring. But it will fire all high-velocity loads.

One problem i have with semi auto .22s is that they tend to be fussy with ammo[not all cases but its been seen] also if not cleaned well it can cause failures. Not all failures in a .22 is the rifle or mag, rimfire .22 have bad rounds here and there[had 2 out of a box of 300 winchester bulk hollow points through a bolt action savage] Still a great rifle, wouldnt mind seeing a few more videos like this

I've found that the BX-25 mag's need to be taken apart and dry lubed at least once before you use them or they will jam every once in a while as they do not get lubed at the factory.

I have noticed that you don't want to hold onto the bx 25 mag when it is cycling. When I used CCI mini-mag hollow points they jam sometimes in the mag but the round nose solids work great. Maybe some light filing/polishing on the feed ramps would help with the mini-mag hp reliability.
@gigglingwizard

One thing I'd add, Dave. You said it'll shoot any .22 other than .22 mag. True enough, but don't count on it to feed. I've tried firing shorts and CB caps with my factory 10-rd mag, and it just won't feed. I don't mean the rounds are too weak to cycle the action--I mean even the 1st round won't feed out of the magazine correctly. When I shoot these rounds, I have to load them one at a time by hand, release the slide, and then insert the mag. Takes some practice getting your fingertips in there.

semi 22 is not typically an advantage with hunting as making the first shot count is key. How is the crossbow you picked up going? 20 yds with reusable ammo is really appealing. Thanks bro for all your time and vids. You rock.
