I was lucky around doing some work on an lod gentleman's house. While we were talking, began talking about firearms. He said he had a gun shop and had retired a few years ago. He said I'm gonna go to the house I'll be right back. He says you might like this. It was a Springfield armory m6 parkerized finish never fired an the original blue box. He said you have $75 . I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough.

I've got two TPS M6s, one in .22 mag over .410, one in .410 over .410(basically just a .410 over under), and one of the Czech made Springfield Armory M6s in .22 LR over .410. The TPS guns are well made but in my opinion not as well made as the originals. My TPS .410 double has a plastic ammo cover, and you can only get 6 rounds into the ammo storage area due to the grip size. The new guns only advantage is the captured takedown pin and screw in chokes. I honestly can't see a .357 mag as a viable survival caliber unless you're survival plan involves security from people. I can use slugs from the .410 barrel for the same thing. .357 ammo is expensive and you get less for your money than an equal size and weight amount of .22LR or even .22 mag. I can buy twice as much .22 mag ammo at slightly less than the cost of one 50 round box of .357. Even using .39 special is going to cost you more per box than an equal amount of .22. My personal choice is .22 mag over .410. I can take 100 yard shots at game with a .22 mag, it's fairly cheap, and packs enough punch for larger animals at short range.

On Dave's advice, I purchased a Stevens 301 12 ga. shotgun. And then added a few adapters (22LR, 38/357, 9mm, 20ga. 410 ga) This M6 is tempting.

I don't believe I have ever seen such a wide range of ammo options in a single firearm. Intriguing. Thanks Dave.

Really happy to see a video on this topic. As some comments have already suggested, I would also really like you to demonstrate how to muzzle loads it. And maybe even see some muzzle load shooting. I am from Germany and am lucky to own the original Sprinfield Armory stainless version in the 22 Lr /.410. I bought it used but in excellent condition for around 350€. Unfortunately the TPS Arms version is not available here, but I would really love to see the TPS Arms version become available in Germany too. I am also searching for an original takedown pin for my Springfield armory gun, so if anyone knows where to buy one that ships to Germany please respond to my comment🙃

I have the TPS .22/410 that i use for squirrel hunting with my mountain cur. I put a red dot sight on it. I use the .22 if the treed squirrel is stationary with a good backstop and the 410 if he's on the move. Having the sling swivel at the end of the barrel allows you to cruise through the woods with your firearm slung over your shoulder without the barrel sticking up and getting caught on brush/vines. I have a soft case for a Ruger 10/22 takedown that i use. The case carries both halves plus a bunch of extra ammo, tools, chokes and cleaning gear. Love it!

I wish more companies would make combo guns, a large game rifle with a 20 or 12 gauge O/U is the perfect walking around gun. .410 would be awesome if it wasn't crazy expensive

I really want bond arms out of Texas to make a good quality combo gun, that employs some type of barrel change system, a barrel selector, and built similar to a h and r break action shotgun with the barrels over under. I don't know why I say bond arms specifically but I think they just have good build quality. I'd want a .223 over a 12 guage, but be able to switch out barrels like you can on bond arms derringers. Like maybe also own a .308 top barrel to switch I and out with the .223. If anyone can make something like that happen it's you Dave!

If i remember correctly, the original USAF M6 Scout was 14 inches long and 22 Hornet over .410. The trigger was developed for use in Arctic conditions. The two holes you see on the top of the Springfield Arms and TPS version are for mounting a rail. Springfield Arms used to sell the rail as an accessory on their website. I love my 22 Hornet version. Now I need one of the .357 Mag versions. 10 years ago cases of surplus USAF .22 Hornet Ammo for the M6 would show up on Gunbroker. Have not seen it in quite awhile now.

The original M6 had a 22 hornet on top barrel. 22 hornet was a rimmed, necked, center-fire cartridge which is considered more reliable than a rim fire. It shot a 46 grain bullet 2650 ft/sec. Slightly heavier than a .22 WMR and 70% faster. Since NATO created a great deal of interest in 5.7x28, I wounder if there are plans to put that caliber into the top barrel. The original m6 had a 14" barrel that swung all the way to the toe of the stock and clipped in making the folded length 15", the same length as the seat I am in now.

You can also reload .38/.357 very easy in all variations.. with round ball or wadcutters for small game , you can load blackpowder and if you load this gun with a .410 slug and a.357 it gives you a second shot capability on larger game. Very interesting, it wouldn't make sense here in Germany/ Europe because of our hunting laws etc. but sure would be a nice toy to have. I had a cz m6 once and sold it, still own an old savage o/u camper take down in 20 gauge and .22 lr .

I don't really see .410 in the stores here, they are always out and for online it's very expensive. However you can get primed hulls for $20 for 100 of them. I already make a fairly good black powder and lead. Just need the mold for casting and I could load some .410s, so I'm definitely going to get one of these in the near future.

Anyone who's lived through the shortages of .22LR knows that .38/.357 can be far easier to obtain during shortages, and cheaper and easier to reload yourself. It can use BP with hard cast in a pinch and once you know how to reload primers, you're completely self-reliant long term. Perfectly fine for taking deer and legal for hunting in Ohio. This is quite the combo for sure.

Bought one of the SA made guns, LNIB, about 15 years ago...the gun was an older one without the useless trigger guard so it would fold in half. The .410 barrel threw excellent killing patters out 30+ yards depending on the load and the game being hunted. Buckshot patters were also good. Slugs however were useless. They came nowhere where the sights could be adjusted to and threw "patterns" at 25 yards, not groups. Not sure what good screw in chokes are on a .410...none of my other ones have and all kill just fine. As to the .22 barrel...it was the only open sighted .22 rifle I have ever owned that from the bench or off-hand I could beat with most any of my .22 handguns. The ergonomics were completely wrong and the trigger pull just left a lot to be desired. Shooting at clay birds on a bank 55 yards away from the sitting position, I could hit them most every time with an Armalite AR7. Would be lucky to hit 2/10 with the M6 using the same position. YMMV...mine went down the road...

Dave, I've always wondered why this wasn't made with a rifled 45 Long Colt barrel on the bottom (ala derringer). One could use that for 410. Then there is no need for a 357. Would be a great set up in 22lr or the original 22 hornet. You could request a special edition 45/410- Pathfinder Special?

Should have it reamed to .357 Maximum like my .357 single shot was and then you can load .357 maximum which is much better than .357 magnum for impact energy. Might not fit in the stock, but it'd add some more smackdown. ;) I've nearly jumped on the .22 Hornet version for a reloadable .22.

I’ve seen some guns that will fire 410 or 45 Long Colt. I’m curious if that rifle will. If so, it would seem better imo to have a .22 or .22 mag on top and the 410/45 LC on bottom. That is a desirable gun nonetheless.
