This is a hands-on comparison (with sample photos) of the 25mm f1.2 Pro lens and the 25mm f1.8 lens from Olympus, both made for the Micro Four Thirds system. It was made for those of you who are thinking of getting one of them or upgrading to the Pro lens and would like to find out more details.
The E-M1 Mark III and the 25mm f1.2 lens were on loan from Olympus Romania ( / olympus-romania-183745... .

The Olympus 25 f1.8 is a very sharp lens and is a perfect match for all smaller compact cameras.

I'll try. Can't promise anything though. It depends on what I can get on loan and from whom.

I think you forgot to mention the F/1.2 is weather-sealed, which is a huge deal for many pros.

The pro lens intrinsically eliminates the amount of reflection when shooting art works with gloss and enhances detail too and because humans have reflection of their oily skin it enhances portraits also unless face is powdered

The 1.2 is « eating » more light than the 1.8 . You should have in theory 1 stop difference and you get at the end only half a stop. Transmission is bad.

I noticed that too. It must be the 19 elements. More glass can be evil.

I would be nice to olympus to make another version of the 25mm and the 42.5 f1.8 to have the clucht focus

I'll get the 1.8 good enough for me.

I wish the hidden collar under the clutch focus had more useable markings.

I'm curious, have you tried MF on this lens and found it lacking in accuracy based on the markings? Because when I typically use MF, it's for on-the-go shooting such as focusing on individual layers of snowflakes during a snowfall (see this:wp.me/pNb6-8L4), and when I need to shoot in bulb mode, I'll rely on the magnification feature in Live View and adjust the focus while looking at the display, to make sure it's as sharp as I can get it.

@@RaoulPop Not this lens specifically, but the markings look very similar to my Zuiko 17mm f1.8. I find the lack of etch markings on the distance scale and the crowded aperture scale difficult to use. I've also read somewhere that the infinity marking can be slightly off. In contrast I have adapted an old manual 24mm lens, the experience of which has been relatively painless for manual focus operation.

Oh I guess I failed to mention that I was attempting to use the Olympus system for street photography, where I didn't have much time to confirm if the subject of interest are in acceptable focus.

@@htwarrior6801 That’s been my experience with Canon lenses as well. I think for modern auto focus lenses, the manufacturers don’t worry so much about accurate manual focus markings. That’s why an old, fully manual lens will always have more accurate markings, because back then that’s all they had to go by. I found with plenty of other lenses from other brands that I simply couldn’t trust manual focus markings at both close range and at infinity. That’s why I appreciate being able to focus through live view and at magnification with Olympus cameras.

@@htwarrior6801 The rangefinder type cameras with manual focus lenses are always going to be better at candid street photography. What I appreciate in my Olympus cameras, particularly in my PEN cameras, is the portability which is so useful for travel and sightseeing. Not street photography, which I don’t enjoy, but walking through the streets and taking carefully composed and focused photographs.
