Ginger likes a full 7-10 months of growing. Not sitting in your garden soil. Start ginger rhizomes indoors, pot them up, and have plants ready for your garden. This is the best way to get massive ginger rhizomes at harvest when you have a shorter growing season.

I soak my ginger over night in water, then pop them in a zip lock bag and put on a heating mat. Within 2 weeks buds and roots pop, then I transfer to flats or pots. 🤷🏼‍♂️ cuts out the 9+week growth issue with direct soil.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN thats interesting they have Pawpaw festivals in Montgomery County here and they sell Pawpaws. The pawpaw contains a neurotoxin annonacin, but that's mostly in the leaves, bark and seeds to discourage the wild life from eating the tree/leaves or destroying the seeds. The fruit flesh is harmless, akin to cyanide in apple pits.

@@lookoutmountaingarockhunte1300 If you live in the DC metro area they're usually ready mid September to last week of September. The first week of October and they're mostly all gone. You harvest them when they're soft and mushy, they'll feel like a really ripe banana or yellow mango. You just cut them open and eat the flesh. Do not eat the seeds. Also do not eat the skin they're extremely astringent and taste horrible. One way to eat them is cut them length wise to cut them in half, pick the seeds out with your hands and scoop the flesh out with a spoon and eat it.

I have bought a pack of your root pouches and started to use them for some herbs. Are these meant more for one time use? I was wondering if you had to cut them along the sides in order to get the plant out safely without damaging the plant since the roots grow through the fabric. I saw how you briefly touched on that in this video. I’d love to see how you remove plants successfully out of these fabric pouches.

I received my quart root pouches. They are great because I pack my dirt in the bottom by tapping it on the table and it's easier to water. Love them!! I transplanted my cucumbers, zucchini in them. How long can they stay in that pouch before I an put them in the garden? . They are growing quite fast. Also, I placed my red/yellow onion and garlic sets in a flat and now they need to be transplanted. Will they be damaged when I transplant them? Do you have a video for transplanting red/yellow onions and garlic?
@THERUSTEDGARDEN
@THERUSTEDGARDEN 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the order. I love them too. They air prune in that pouch so they can stay quite a while if you keep them fed. A knife around the root ball along the pouch edge helps when you are taking them off. Squash and zukes you do want to get out fast into the garden like 4 weeks or so. Onions should be fine. They get beat up but do well.
