Thanks for the resource, Def have been feeling lost about the competitive scene. Would also really appreciate a video going over the current state of the meta. Not in like a "play kashtira" way but more like, "the metagame currently has a high saturation of effects that banish cards from field and grave:, or problem cards which should be red flags or at the very least good targets for hand traps yk

I learned to just play for fun with friends and go to locals or reginal events trying to chase the world championship title is for those who have support or are already set in life not something to make a life goal or career choice but simply to be played for the love of the game essentially

One thing about etiquette, one thing I've been doing with friends and locals is not shuffling my deck between searches during a long combo until I need to draw or I'm done with said combo. How strict are rules around that at higher-level tourneys? If my opponent and I make that agreement, is it still fine to do?

From my experience this is fine if you explicitly tell your opponent that you have more searches to do with your deck, most should be ok with that

I’ve been going to locals for about four months now off and on. Almost all of the players at my locals play some kind of meta-deck. Most of the players there have talked at regional and even a couple have topped a ycs. First time I went there I got third place. Every since I’ve went x-2 or x-3 in four round locals. What are some tips to improve this? I’ve played swordsoul mostly because it was budget friendly and I was familiar with the deck.

I think locals can be quite volatile in terms of results since there's so few rounds, and plenty of random stuff you come across. I'd say to just keep trying to master your own deck first so you don't make as many mistakes, and then try becoming more familiar with your local meta. You should hopefully start seeing better results after that, but even if you don't, just remember that a poor result may not necessarily be your fault too

Oh god... speaking of food, the amount of people I have encountered who snuck in food in via zip lock bags, eating while we duel and then proceed to want to touch my cards are the worst. Etiquette: If you want to eat sweets like snakes or something, at least bring hand sanitizer to wash your hands. Extremely gross the way a lot of players conduct themselves.

Prizing of konami-hosted events is absolute garbage. Nothing compared to mtg for sure.

Step 1. Spend 1000 on a meta deck that will get banned in a year to maybe win a nintendo switch and a prize youll have to sell to get actual money from and that still wont cover your expenses. This game really sucks. If they didnt hit every deck that came out then maybe it would be worth playing

I'd say don't play like a complete arsehole ie if its obvious the opponents deck isn't going to be much of an issue to deal with then don't treat it like the world will end if you don't win the duel within 15 mins, (this is from my experience from playing at locals). During 2023 I rarely if ever went partially due to work but also because nearly every time I would go to locals it would go like this: I go there in a good mood, first round starts and opponent spends 5+ mins going through their entire deck making it impossible for me to play the game. Spend 30+ mins twiddling my thumbs waiting for round to end only for the same thing to happen in every other round (I rarely if ever win a match outside of a "bye"). When I first started playing with an actual deck (1 zombie horde which was my 1st structure deck and it was after the hobby league had finished) I went against cyber dragons and the guy looking back at it now obviously went easy on me for example I summoned red-eyes zombie necro dragon I was going to end my turn because I was under the assumption that extra deck monsters couldn't attack the turn they are summoned (I was binging duel monsters on Netflix at the time) he told me I could and I ended up winning the duel by getting necro dragon to over 4k atk and because zombie world was active I summoned his monster to swing for game. That was a great time both because I was able to actually play the game but also because at the time I had just started college and following high school in which I was bullied quite a bit which lead to my self confidence being almost none-existent I will always be thankful for those interactions rebuilding my confidence to who I am today. The only good matches really I have are sneak peaks or normal matches against a couple individuals (one of which was that cyber dragon player) who do hold back a little against me and newer players or one I would somewhat frequently go against uses elemental heroes (by which i mean elemental heroes using cards such as flame wingman, bladedge, skyscraper etc) because there was an actual back and forth match going on. For a good while my deck was zombie shaddolls and in one match I went against a kid who had just recently gotten the shaddoll structure decks. I could have easily overpowered his deck and won very quickly but I didn't. I showed him the shaddolls in my ed, what they did and how he could use monsters from his deck with shaddoll fusion. I let him make a few plays and deal damage. I find that more fun than just sitting there on my phone because my "opponent" prefers to treat the game as if they have a gun to their head and has to end the round within 12 minutes despite there being 40-45 mins per round. 1 of my favourite decks is time thieves with 1 "combo" I kind of like with it is boosting redoers atk with time thief hack then using xyz import because it uses atk and not original atk. Another one I have in my TF deck is raider's knight into arc rebellion which had it been right at the start of the xyz era could have been half decent but because it isn't 2014 that isn't allowed, you MUST spend 5+ mins going through your entire deck turn 1, you MUST not allow the opponent to play the game, you MUST not allow anyone to have fun despite it being "hobby league".
