USC Center for the Political Future (CPF), USC Schwarzenegger Institute, Trojan Democrats, and POSC 424 hosted a conversation with Andrew Yang on Monday, March 20. Yang is co-chair of the Forward Party. He was a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and a 2021 candidate for mayor of New York City. Named by President Obama as a Presidential Ambassador of Global Entrepreneurship, he is the founder of Humanity Forward and Venture for America. His new book "Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy" is a bold blueprint for moving beyond the “era of institutional failure” by transforming our outmoded political and economic systems to be resilient to twenty-first-century problems.
Featuring:
- Andrew Yang: Co-Chair, Forward Party; Author, “Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy”
- Christian Grose (Moderator): USC Professor of Political Science and Public Policy; Academic Director, USC Schwarzenegger Institute
- Kamy Akhavan (Welcome Remarks): CPF Executive Director

I feel sad that there was such limited amount of time when the questions were so thoughtful and yielded such interesting and important answers.

Andrew was so honest and well spoken here. I would love to see him in a townhall debate, at any level. If you dont run, maybe the forward party could actually hold debates. With the goal of finding some practical middle ground not just throwing insults at each other.

It's so sad that most people can't see the perfect (rare) candidate (genuine and brilliant) and rather allow the media to tell them who to vote for, or they feel the need to vote for a "charismatic" (typical phony conman, or corporate hack) candidate who only tells them what they want to hear. Do Americans suck at judging character, or what? The future is changing extremely fast and Yang was the only candidate who understood the serious problems coming down the pike. Americans used to see the value in highly intelligent and genuine introverts (Lincoln, JFK, MLK Jr...). All of which were the same rare personality type as Yang.

Folks like the ones in the audience should register to vote under the Common Sense party of California. They are working with the Forward Party to fix all the problems discussed in this talk.

What if every American over 20 years of age gets as many thousands per year and increasing $1,000 with every birthday? That way, someone who is 80 is guaranteed 80K per year when they need it most for healthcare, housing, etc. Perhaps eliminate those who make over a certain amount along with other restrictions. AND adults get birthday's back!! 🎂😃💸

Yes and he's not addressing how things got where they are, why democracy with a deregulated campaign financing in a oligarch run corpratocracy isn't working... Incentives for corporations to expose the real policy causes of rotting within the system usually do not come from CEOs, pushing their bottom line means keeping the rott going regardless its unsustainable. Any politician that doesn't understand laws and policies, corroding the entire nation, and instead piggy back off of the crumbling poisoned wells with shiny new ideas only... is pushing a product not a complete solution. HEY WHERE ARE YOUR START UPS 👏🤲😄 WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP. ECONOMY ECONOMY ECONOMY.. wake the country up mainstream a solution. .... product priduct. Legit Yang would never have GOTTEN and infrastructure or chips bill passed.
