You were about to get scammed by a blown head gasket, good thing you video tapped this diagnosis. They were gonna come back and say it never overheated before the coolant flush. Good on you to do the chemical exhaust gas in the coolant test before swapping the coolant. No one just asks for a coolant flush unless the vehicle is overheating. Warn out water pump or head gasket leak. Oil in the coolant was an easy to see deal, exhaust leak is harder to find if you don't heat the engine up.

"People don't just come in for a coolant flush" lmao very true. Had a car today come in today for only a brake flush cuz their brake pedal would sink to the floor thinking there was air in the system (which there was no mention of in the Repair Order). So I perform it as requested thinking maybe the customer attempted to do his own brakes and cracked a line loose and air entered the system. Pedal felt great after until i drove it 2 miles after test driving and pedal sunk to the floor LOL. Long story short, dude needs a brake master cylinder.

Oh yea, brake pedal to the floor, I remember MY incident very well. Regardless I was driving on a turnpike, coming up on a tollbooth. Stepped on the brake pedal ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I went pass the tollbooth pumping the pedal. When I finally able to stop, a long ways from the tollbooth. I decided to just keep going, someone will pull me over somewhere. I never heard from anyone EVER. That was 9 years ago, so I think I’m safe. The culprit was a bad master cylinder. Thanks

Had my head gasket go out on my pontiac years back. It was hard to diagnose because car wouldn't overheat until I really stepped on it on the freeway. Then it would cool down back to normal temp if I drove the regular freeway speed limit. I though it was the fans, temp sensors, etc. There was no oil at all in the dexcool, just tiny pieces of what seemed like dirt/debris or gasket. Couldnt tell. Finally did a combustion test on the radiator and sure enough, turned yellow. When I drained the oil it looked fine until right at the very end, some milk shake came out. Before that though, I drove it for weeks with it displaying these symptoms and could not detect any coolant/oil mixture on the dipstick or in the reservoir. Ended up changing the head gasket after doing the whole straight edge test on the block and heads and luckily didnt have any more issues for years after that with the engine. Seems like the intrusion was small enough it didn't cause too much overheating.

The 2.5 is one incredible engine inline 5 20v motor vvt also a very reliable motor the later generation having a headgaset failure is uncommon most people only have issues with the vacuum pump leaking and air system leaks if the repair is done I’d check the block and head clearance and if all good do a timing job and replace the thermostat and oil filter housing and that motor might go a while longer

Constant flow of air bubbles in the coolant reservoir will reveal a defective head gasket. Imo no need in this type of test. Really no other way air bubbles can get in the coolant except thru the head gasket. In this case it's right on the edge though, it might go for awhile yet or it could go completely out tomorrow. I was to guess someone got that engine a bit too hot once but not enough to destroy it right away.

Most likely nothing wrong with the head gasket if you follow the data. Most likely the coolant was mixed with an incompatible type (or just water) during previous work and turned to mud / rust - seen it many times. Flush it and fit the right type and monitor - probably needs Si-OAT for that car.

Nope, I'm not buying it Kenny. I would change the coolant because someone could of put oil in it. Also, those head gaskets are pretty good. The weakeast part is the oil filter housing and oil cooler seals that mount to the block. Just did one last week, look for oil and coolant running down the block. Revving it to the moon proves nothing, especially a lady driving it. Change the coolant and oil, add head sealer and AT205 and call it a day. Hope there will be an update video?

Oil to coolant 'oil coolers' have been problematic on VW & Audi vehicles since their introduction in the '80s, failed VW/Audi coolers are a well known, common pattern failure item, ask any experienced VW/Audi Tech. Your first oversight mistake in this video was when you pulled the dipstick AFTER the road test, checking oil in a new to you vehicle should happen before your first engine start of that vehicle. Second oversight was when you removed the pressure cap, water (and coolant) have visibly separated and risen above whatever fluid sits below, you could/should have stuck a finger into the whatever fluid is below, see what sort of goo comes out. Heated, re-heated and re-re-heated coolant/oil intermix stinks. Internally leaking coolers pass fluid both ways. When running, oil pressure is (obviously) higher than cooling system pressure, oil (obviously) passes into the cooling system. After running, during cool down, cooling system pressure of 15-20 psi is obviously higher than zero oil pressure, crankcase gets coolant intermixed/contaminated. This next part is completely guesswork on my part, take it as such; First, I'm assuming a failed cooler and a good head gasket (partly because it's a VW), I'm guessing that, due to the duration of your blue fluid/Block Check test, enough heat transferred in the cooling system to release combustion byproducts from the intermixed oil which then, faintly, registered as a color change. If/when combustion gasses are forced into the cooling system, especially when RPM/combustion pressures are increased (as you did), the results are dramatically conclusive and near instantaneous, a Blue Fluid test cannot go otherwise. In my opinion, your Blue Fluid test results were ambiguous. Google tells me that combustion pressures run between 300 to 2,500 psi, anywhere in that range is going to show NOW when Blue Fluid tested. Blue Fluid; In my experience, Blue Fluid reveals combustion gasses in the cooling system, faster and better than other methods combined. Draw some tailpipe gas into your Blue Fluid tester, see how fast it changes, combustion gas in the cooling system is just like that only A LITTLE slower. Here's your Blue Fluid economy tip; once your Blue Fluid has changed color and you're done testing with it, don't dump it, instead draw fresh air through the tester until the Blue Fluid's original color is restored, save that fluid for the next test. Yeah, I'd keep color restored Blue Fluid in separate containers from fresh. A Blue Fluid kit should be in every Tech's toolbox. Isuzu oil coolers; This one is a one time, anecdotal example, unlike VW/Audi. “Other Guy” (OG, like “Other Shop” but at the other end of the same shop) replaced a complete engine attempting to address an oilcoolant intermix problem. OG transferred all the external accessories, including the oil cooler to the new engine, the P'up ended up in my bay to figure out why the intermix problem persisted. With the cooler removed, I blocked off one coolant passage and applied shop air regulated to 20 psi to the other port and submerged it all in a bucket of water expecting bubbles, I got nothing, I'm stuck at zero, no progress. This engine's cooler attached to the engine and routed its oil through two LONG banjo bolts. While my pressure testing set up was still connected, I released pressure and applied vacuum. When I pinched off all four oil passages with fingertips, those fingertips got (gently, no injuries occurred) sucked into the oil passages' openings, problem identified. One more common pattern failure intermix example, I4, SOHC Saturns develop a head crack in the #5 cam saddle, oil pressure when running, cooling system pressure during cool down. Signed, ~Oil Cooler D'vivre

Why wouldn't you do the testing before charging the customer for an oil change, you could top the oil off for a few dollars prior to testing. 15:50 Mr. Kenny.. Whenever I get results like that when I'm not sure what they mean or I think I'm seeing something, I go back and look at the video of how it looked originally versus how it looks now. It's at that point where if you just think of everything as a whole if you think of what it's telling you if it either is or isnit's because then you'd have to come up with an ultimate explanation of how it's doing what it's doing. In my case I was able to determine if my car probably needs a water pump because my water pump began to leak so I'm gonna have to get that hole procedure done because as I understand it if you're doing the water pump you're doing the timing belt so you might as well do the head gasket. And my stupid self left my MLS gaskets up in New Jersey it looks like they're gonna be needed............. I think I put them in my room because I think I took them out of my car and now it looks like I shouldn't have done that... I'll probably get a specific pair mail to the shop. But that's what I do just to try to be helpful

Maybe change the oil and keep driving til it is a problem for sure.

Your test equipment sucks...... jus’sayin...... usually good testing equipment will change blue to yellow very quickly if there is an issue.

It also depends on how severe the damage is. On the brightside, we caught this early. Keep wrenching 🔧

Us it possible the test fluid was just old ? Anything reactive like this, would gave a limited shelf life after opening ..
