Losing Grimes is a big loss to the shop. Understand why he wants to eliminate the long drive. I did that for 18 years to the car factory job I held. Almost anybody can be trained to turn a wrench, but diagnostic skills are HARD to come by. There are THOUSANDS of parts changers out there which is NOT what you want in the shop.

Losing Grimes was a big blow, but good on him; a long commute is good reason enough for a new job. As for the Malibu - I called it years ago. I can commiserate with the Car Wizard... I went for months training one new guy after another, only to have them move on to better paid positions as soon as they got to be good at their job, and the company wouldn't offer enough money to keep them! Meanwhile, I ended up training new folks and delaying my vacations (I got 4 weeks a year!). Because I was salaried, I was working 60+ hours a week (I was scheduled for 48 hours/week) and not being compensated for the extra hours... along with not getting my vacation time! Several times, I would get paid for the vacation time without getting time off. Not as good of a deal as you would think! I retired at 60, and 6 years later I am still enjoying NOT doing any work that I don't want to do (honey-dos are the exception)!

Good luck with your help. Years ago I worked for a company that sold blue print & micro film machines. They gave us a company car but the large terroritory was a killer. Would leave at 7 AM then drive for 3 hours and have to make two service calls a hour apart. Would not pay for overtime so after getting home past 9 PM told them I could not work Friday because I had almost 50 hours worked. Told me I had to work every Friday. Took off that Friday & following Monday to go on a mini vacation.

Grimes came across as a highly capable computer geek, not the stereotypical mechanic/technician

Grimes was exceptional in his methodical ethic and diagnosis. He may not have been the fastest but he was thorough I feel you need a 3rd mechanic and expand your throughput of vehicles. Remember your Utube also rings in good income so you do have a stable base load to enable you options or to have a 3rd mechanic and move on old stale vehicles taking up space on lifts, giving room for other customers projects.

@@MikeOHaraYQMWizard is becoming a click baiter. When he goes through 3 different boats, 2 RVs and many cars that he teased us about and never finished!? Yea he is a content tease like most KZfaqrs turn out to be. Then turn the channel into a used car sales ad.

Thanks for the overview!!! I wish I could rotate cars like you. It's fun to drive something new and special every year or two but I'm in a big city with street parking....
