Wow! There's a lot packed into this short video. It's unusual to see Parodon in their natural habitat and grazing on such large cobbles, but to learn that a species of Corydoras is surviving in seasonal pools at 30˚C, along with apistos is really surprising. Thank you, Oliver, you never fail to educate me.

thank you. Also i see A.apolinari always in low numbers on bedrock shelves, but here the river is full in low season. The Pareidon orinocensis are more rare, but mix right in. This is downstream of the Chaetostoma joropo habitats, where the main river is also warmer.

not sure, that species is exported frequently, but I think not bred by fish farms at all, they do basically C.paleatus, aeneus, sterbai and panda, that is it! Expert breeders focus on the rare and expensive ones.

@@justincj1989 usually you see them mixed in with tetras that look similar, then school in very shallow water. I have some video of it, but not enough to show it well. We will have to see if we can put something together.

One more question, corydoras axelrodi does also occur here right? And in the rainy season these streams have a strong current right
@belowwater
@belowwater 3 ай бұрын
no, different creeks further to the southwest - yes, in rainy season the water will be deep and fast moving, maybe different fish are here then

In the Amazon millions of fish get stuck in "aquarium sized" pools/puddles every dry season and die.
@belowwater
@belowwater 10 ай бұрын
yes, certainly, when the fish get this crowded in remaining pools of water, a single week delay in the rainy season will cause millions of them to die.

not in the peak dry season - in the rainy season there will be tons of plants, i am certain.

yes, eventually, not much has changed, i have added Sartor respectus, and the Geophagus argyrostictus eventually got too old (they did breed in the big tank). The problem with the cichlids is that you have to feed a lot for them to have enough, but i don't want the other fish to get fat.

Hello. May i ask what river these puddles where near?
@belowwater
@belowwater Жыл бұрын
it's a river, shown in the start of the video. In peak dry season the water runs off and evaporates in these small streams and fish get "stuck" in the deeper pools, eventually just puddles are left. With the start of the rainy season the small rivers start to run again.
