I love a good garden centre shopping spree 😁 Your allotment is looking so good! I've been spending the last several weekends trying to tame my garden, and it's finally starting to look like I've achieved something 😂 I don't have anything to plant out yet, which might be a mistake but I need to dig up and sift the soil where I had had brambleberries growing so that hopefully they don't come back. They really aren't a good one for in-ground in a small garden, even if you think you'll stay on top of the pruning. They just send suckers out everywhere, some several metres away from the original plant. I was shocked by how long some of the roots were 😅

Hey Erratic Perfectionist 👋 it feels good after putting in the hard work clean up the space 🙌 I've heard brambles are like weeds they lean over and root everywhere!! Hopefully you get on top of it and don't feel defeated! Bit by bit and your garden will be transformed! P.s I hope the curtains are coming along nicely 🥰
@ErraticPerfectionist

@@thetinygarden_ yep, brambles spread roots underground as well as rooting from the tip if it touches the ground. The fruit was delicious, especially the silvanberry, but my plan is to prioritise plants that aren't going to try to take over the entire garden. Thank you 😊 I've taken a break after finishing the first set of curtains, but I've been mentally preparing to get back into it the next rainy weekend. Just watching you tackle the allotment preparation inspired me to get out into my own garden once the weather was cool and dry enough to make it possible to spend a decent amount of time doing things outdoors! I'm envious of how much you have growing at the moment! I'm sure it'll be such a productive year for you!

Hey Laura how lovely to see you again 😊 l grew Lady Di runner beans three years ago and never looked back they are fantastically tasty and not stringy at all ,you will love them if you a lover of runner's.And l also grew sweet dumpling as well and l think they are my favourite,easy to grow and perfect in every way,had them on my kitchen table for decoration far ages as they are so so cute ❤ love the look of the scarlet spring onions,very interesting . Couldn't help noticing judst how many snail's are about this year think its probably because of all the rain we've had and still having 😏 l done four packets of sweet peas they have come up but look a little pale so of to the garden centre to get some more tomorrow.l also did four packets of Coriander 100% germination the snail's had the lot over night l was not happy at all as the Coriander was incredibly healthy and l was so proud of it.Thankyou for sharing Laura happy gardening 🌱🌱🌱💞

Lots of really good feedback on them! So many snails my pallet collars are full of them 🧐🤨 I cant believe they munched 4 packets of coriander, I am not surprised you weren't happy 🫣 thankfully there is time to sow more, keep at it and stay possitive 💖🤗

Hi Laura, what a lovely shop, its a great feeling isn't it when you have a good garden centre shop lol. Those Azalia plants look so pretty & will be lovely once they get going. Last year i planted two peonies in big pots, they seemed to grow a bit then that was it, something told me to leave them till this year, good job i did they're growing brilliantly, oh i was so chuffed lol. I went & got some coriander seeds today & basil, I'm growing a lot of tomatoes (hopefully lol) so i can make pasta sauces & freeze it, so i thought i may as well grow basil to go with them, I'm doing a pot indoors & some outside, I'm making a lot of guacamole lately I'm craving it so again i thought may as well grow coriander too. Wow look at those potatoes, well done love oh i bet you were buzzing 😅 i sit in my conservatory with a cuppa & stare at all my plants 😅 i love it. Catch ya later love, have a good weekend, 👋👋 xx

Hey Carol 👋 isn't that the magic of gardening, I had a similar experience to your with your peoney with a salvia and then out of no where the following year it came back so strong!! Oh the home made pasta sauce for the freezer is such a good idea!! I hope you get lots of toms! I do the exact same thing, I could sit there for hours just looking at all the plants and then straight out the window at my broad bean flowers! It's a wonder why I have such bad luck with house plants 🙈😅 have a lovely rest of your week and see you very soon 🥰xx

Hi Laura, thanks for the name drop the BFB is great stuff, if you put it in a hole try not to put the plant straight on top put a sprinkle of soil in first and then the plant, if you forget any BFB don't worry about it just sprinkle some around the plant trying not to get the leaves, and either give the soil a tickle to mix or just let the rain wash it in, either way it'll eventually get down to those roots at the bottom. That is one heck of a Garden Center shop over 300 Euro that's roughly £250 in our money ha ha ha. Good on you for the wonderful garden center haul! At the end of last season, we acquired two marked-down azaleas, and two high-bush blueberry plants About the lighter green of your pole bean leaves...makes me think, "Chlorosis," which is a kind of plant anemia. I know beans aren't acid lovers *per se,* but your soil may be more alkaline than they like because if the pH is too high the plants can't uptake necessary iron. I also know that some varieties, notably of some runner beans, just have lighter, more chartreuse-y leaves. I *believe,* although not having grown them myself I don't know with certainty, that rattlesnake pole beans produce a darker green leaf. Before you start acidifying your soil, though, test it for pH, whether you send a sample off to a lab, use a pH meter, or dig out a soil sample and with that in a clear glass, pour some distilled white vinegar over it. If it bubbles, the soil's alkaline. At the very least, you'd want a pH metre to give you a more accurate idea of how alkaline it is or isn't, and DO NOT put the vinegar directly on your garden bed until and unless you know how much adjustment of the pH is needed. And above all else, do not rely on my lack of expertise! As you've said, you can't take anything for granted in your allotment, and I'll add that you can't take anything for granted if you're "buying in" compost, either. Much gardening love from Northeast Ohio, U.S.A. 😊💚💚💚💚💚😊

Hey B Halliwell 👋 I have fallen in love with the azaleas it's the first time I have ever seen one! I just googled the blueberries you picked up, they look SO good! I did see 'Chlorsis' as I was doing a garden google to figure out what might be wrong! I used the same compost on nearly all my seedlings and they all pretty much look pale! Testing the soil would be really interesting since I bought the few shrubs and the blueberry I have become more interested in acid/alkaline soil. All the soil in the home garden was bought in over 2 years ago as general multipurpose compost and an annual mulch of farmyard manure. I don't have any idea what the ph is, this homemade test sounds like a bit of fun! Haha 😆 note taken I won't apply vinegar directly! Greatly appreciate your tips! Hope the weather is shinning in Ohio 🤞have a lovely weekend in the garden 💖🥰

@@thetinygarden_ Never??? You've truly never seen an azalea before now? They're related to rhododendrons which seem to be very popular in the British Isles and Ireland, or have I missed the mark in thinking rhododendrons are commonly used in Irish landscaping? (Or, just on larger Irish estates, perhaps?) When I was a kid, azaleas seemed to have been *de rigeur* for suburban home landscaping.. I can't recall any neighbor's home from my childhood that didn't have one or the other in the front garden (foundation plantings, mainly), and/or Japanese yew. I somehow got the idea (as a cranky old adult) that they must be very, very common in your part of the world, the azaleas and the rhododendrons, both. We shall see how these blueberries are, once the young bushes bear fruit. That's assuming, of course, that we can keep the deer, the opossums, the raccoons, and the birds away from the berries, and the deer away from the bushes, themselves, in addition to keeping them away from the berries. Garden lore or wisdom says to plant two different varieties of blueberry bush of the same type (both highbush, or both lowbush, or both rabbiteye, for example) that bloom at the same time. Pale seedlings, pale plants...it could be as you've mentioned, that they need more overall light, or more, and more direct, sunlight. Old-time farmers used to judge their soil's pH by tasting a handful of the ground in the field/s, and as farming was their livelihood, I have to suppose they knew exactly what they were tasting. In addition to not attempting to acidify soil by applying vinegar (of any type), in this day and age you'd probably do well to eschew putting soil in your mouth. Soil does become more acid as it acquires more and more organic matter. Thanks for the good weather wishes 🥰💖; it's partly cloudy today and we've a forecast for rain by nightfall, then steady rain until Wednesday next when we'll see some sun and then more showers, but this is actually quite usual for this time of year. And we do need the precipitation as it has been drier than usual. Much gardening love from Northeast Ohio. 😊 💚💚💚💚💚😊

Hey Jim 👋 most of the beds in my home garden I made myself from pressure treated deck boards, I purchased the pallet collar beds from a garden centre in Dublin called Johnstown Garden Centre! There is a little playlist on the channel called the redesign where I show you how I built them 🙂

I got them from Sow Diverse! Their germination was great but they have looked a little sad since I planted them out at the allotment I think I might have been a few weeks early! I get most of my seeds from Seeds Ireland, Brown Envelope Seed Company, Sow Diverse or Irish seed savers, they are all Irish companies and organic which is nice too!

I will be interested to see how you get on with the Honey Bear Squash. I've tried that variety for 3 years and I never got anything. Plants didn't get more than a few inches in size. Probably a bad pack of seeds or something. What was the costly mistake by the way? Did I miss that?

Hey Nitelite 👋 I have three honey bears poking out of the soil, I'll keep my fingers crossed 🤞 the mistake was not feeding and potting on my tomatoes and chillies, I would have lost them all! Thankfully the new pots, soil and feed I bought is working a treat!
