you could have put that dagger throw to better use by using a GCD at max melee, moving off the boss and getting back to the boss before the GCD expired. Only time it's a DPS boost is if you spend a full GCD or more off the boss. But for most bosses if you hit the melee skill just as you move out of range, youi can get back to the mobs max melee distance before the GCD expires foregoing any need to have used dagger throw in the first place. However, if there is a long time where you are not on the boss, then yes, please use ranged abilities.

5:24 and healer mains everywhere clapped. Also when the inevitable happens and you decide to stop and see what the floor tastes like so a healer has to pick you up and pour you back into your shoes, don't start casting the second you come back alive. Give the healers time to recognize you have accepted the resurrect and drop some heals on you. You are invulnerable for 5 seconds on resurrection, or until you start casting. If you start casting, that barrier goes away and your fractional amount of HP is potentially exposed to the harsh elements and sharp pointies. Just like in Monster Hunter, you sit there, contemplate the meaning of life, and enjoy your s. Find the nearest healer bubble and make a cup of tea until you are back at over half health. You can even delay accepting the resurrect for a bit if it is a really bad time.
@Prizzlesticks

Yeah... I'm glad that some people wait a moment before accepting my res... but holy shit does it cause me to panic. Like, are they salty and just refusing it? Nah, I'm sure they're just riding out this boss mechanic, right? ...right? I'm also that bad DPS that as soon as i see the res button I'm like, "LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOO," and then res into a meteor. Or, I forget that if i accept the game's res, I'm locked out of the fight. I'm, a decent healer main, but as DPS, I'm sure my healers LOVE me.
@cns6
@cns6 2 жыл бұрын
Also, thinking about this as well... So, part of the anxiety I have about ressing others, is that when things are going on, I'm ususlly not watching to make sure that swiftcast and ascend go off correctly. I throw ascend out, and then, move on to whatever needs to be done next. So, if anyone would like a more noticable audio queue I thought of this macro. /ac "Name of whatever" /echo /micon "Name of whatever" So, I've no doubt that someone will come around and be like, "Uhm, actually, macros are bad. Mmmmmkaaaay," and you know what? I say it depends on what and how you're using them. If you're mindful of their short comings, then, depending on your use, they can be super helpful. Should ypu string all your attack combos together into a macro? I wouldn't advise it. Should you string swiftcast and your res together? I wouldn't advise it. But, I use a macro system that lets me multi task extremely well while dpsing, and as long as I'm mindful of how it works, It's not failed me.

@@KotCR I get what you're saying, I do. but JoCat touched on this in the video about those mitigations, "But what about those long cooldowns?" same advice for tank cooldowns, most of them are short enough that if you space them out well enough and with good control, you can almost always have a CD up during mob pulls. Honestly, what I tell newer tanks in dungeons is that: "Most of the dmg a tank takes is actually during trash pulls... bosses don't do all that much comparatively (even tank busters), So try to use your heavy CDs one after the other during mob pulls, and you'll find out that if the healer can do more dmg the faster the dungeon run can go."

@@MekamiEye Yeah I know, I wonder if these players are stuck in a "reactive" rather than "proactive" mindset. Where they think they are only to be used in emergencies, but they're not, with the exception of perhaps the Invul skills (even then, I feel Pally's should get comfortable using Hallowed Ground the same as any other mitigation, seems as there is no downside to it, and getting it on CD earlier means you can use it again sooner). I think so many tanks need to learn that the whole point of mitigation skills is to prevent you getting to critical health in the first place; Not as a response to being in critical health. At that point it won't save you anyway, 20% mitigation will not stop a tankbuster killing you if you are already at 20% HP. They need to learn to use it before it hits when they are at full HP so they're HP never drops below 50%. The healer can easily top them up with an oGCD or regen then. Of course, wall-to-wall pack pulls are scarier to keep up with than any tankbuster when the tank refuses to use mitigation. The sad thing is it seems alot of tanks follow the advice of "always wall-to-wall" without employing the advice that has to go with it to play that way which is to "always be mitigating" (on trash pulls anyway).

Speedrunners would grasp the "always be casting" rule pretty well, especially Metroid speedrunners There's a tech you can do in Metroid where you pump your gun arm up and down, and each time you do, it moves you one pixel forward. I can't actually think of a reason to use scathe on a boss at level 80. If you're playing BLM right you should always have at least one of the following available: thundercloud proc, firestarter proc, swiftcast, triplecast, at least 1 polyglot. ALL of these are far better options for instant casts than scathe and don't even cost mana. If you're dodging so many mechanics that you don't have enough instant-casts to possible keep DPSing, it's better to just transpose to ice and Umbral Soul a few times so that you can start a full fire phase as soon as the boss chills out rather than wasting all of your MP on scathes when it does less damage than a single Fire IV.

Always press buttons, dodge AOE's, do combos, yes even the tanks and healers, learn what your buttons do. A general tip for doing damage as healer: Glare/Malefic/Broil costs less mana than Raise, and if you've had to pick the same person up seven times in a single fight, it deals more damage, too. Do take the time after the fight or between wipes to see if they need help, though. Friendly advice is free, and can save you up to 2400 mana per minute in some fights. Just try to keep it salt-free, or they might not listen. And now a general tip for... Everyone, actually! When you get raised, don't press any buttons and you will have five seconds of invulnerability. Please take advantage of this, because you might accept a raise in the middle of a healer's GCD and need to wait up to three or four seconds for a heal spell to reach you. We can't heal you immediately after picking you up, because there's a raising animation, and you're briefly untargetable. It's not that we're ignoring you. Well, most of us aren't. But it does take some time for you to accept the raise, the animation to play, and you to become targetable for that heal that will make sure you don't die to an incoming raidwide.

Wow what a great surprise birthday present to me as a DPS Main! :DDD ------- ok for reals; it took me a while to fully understand what it means to be a decent DPS. Like most first-timers, I thought I should just know how to hit things effectively; but the more I played (and playing healer on the side) the more I would see some people not applying their dots, really seeing the whole "a dead DPS does no DPS" thing in full effect, and overall recognizing the importance of all roles doing their share of DPS. When an alliance/trial have a majority experienced-DPS, I was blown away at how fast we can get through something - I just...REALLY underestimated the speed that things can be completed in when a majority of the DPS play their roles to the same standard we tend to hold the other two roles in. (edited typos)

This. It doesn’t matter what the mechanics are really, just because DPS is the simplest role doesn’t mean it is so easier to do RIGHT; it just means there’s less parts to put together. If the quality of the parts are crap, it doesn’t matter how simple something is, it’s still going to be crap.

And you want to make sure you hit those OGCDs while the GCD clock is running, but not so late in the clock that you can't use another skill to keep the clock running until the animation finishes (like jump). Using OGCDs in between GCDs is called "weaving", having an OGCD run over and make it so you can't use your GCD for a bit is called "clipping", and if your connection is good you can "double weave" things like Blood For Blood and Battle Litany, but your animation is too long for things like Jump, which can only be a "single weave". So doing max DPS on a melee is all about how you keep your GCD running and weave your OGCDs between them without clipping. Just in case you see someone talking about that stuff and didn't know what they meant.

@@oceandark3044 can buff ogcds even clip? i mean, jump obviously can and i think i do feel bloodletter and etc. causing my gcds to buffer, but i'm not sure if it's ever happened with my buffs and i'd find it pretty odd if they did, since they get their animation canceled by _walking._ like, yeah, "animation locks" don't actually have to _lock your animation_ per se, but near i can tell clipping exists solely to limit the amount of animation canceling that goes on, which ... sure, fair enough, it can look p. dodgy, but if an animation has lower priority than basic movement yet still clips your actual combat buttons ... also feel like calling it b4b around peeps who admit to being new to the game is just gonna cause confusion, common parlance or no ( heh, par _lance_ )

@@hi-i-am-atan They actually CAN! There is a certain amount of the animation of just about every skill that will always stop you from doing pretty much everything. Now, it SHOULDN'T because they're so fast that it shouldn't be a problem. But it can happen if you, for example, try to triple weave.

A BLM life is his Eno-chan, what will I have if I can't make the world around me go boom. In truth, it is a good skill to use when you are forced to move. Though if I am learning a fight I tend to use it less because I am busy learning the timings of a fight and not focused on the tiny button for it on the far side of my hotbars.
@CappuccinoGuil
@CappuccinoGuil 2 жыл бұрын
@@ashaatarins9273 The reason I find Scathe so fantastic is simple: it's a finisher. It's not great for bosses, because, you know, you kill them ONCE. But in a dungeon, I can look at a monster with low health and just use scathe to snipe it and kill it on the spot. it's a simple math: my quickest spell will take at least 1.5s to cast, plus the animation end, plus travel time. Scathe is instant cast, instant hit. If I know it'll kill the monster, I'll use it instead of spending time casting Frozen or something with an AOE. Although, I do agree, if Scathe was on OGCD it'd be soooo much better.
