Modern chess theory builds up in quite an unusual way! This line that Zhansaya Abdumalik played with the black pieces in QGA was first used in 2011 in a correspondence game. After that it was used by GM Nguyen Thai Dai Van in the European Hybrid World Cup qualifiers 2021, just a few days ago in May. It is quite possible that Zhansaya picked up the line from that game and polished it. An unassuming Praggnanandhaa looked totally surprised at having to face this super complicated idea. He navigated the maze pretty well, but wasn't 100% accurate. The game ended in Zhansaya's favour, but it had very little to do with the opening.
In this video IM Sagar Shah delves deeper into the extremely complex 6...Qb6 line in the Queen's Gambit Accepted (QGA).

Liked for featuring a game in which our guy didn't come out on top. Sign of maturity.

Great commentary Sagar Sir as usual, but please follow other players' games too. Indian players are not only playing here, even Vincent and Nodirbek played good games. In the commentary sessions also, please try to follow games of other players. Same goes for GCT, you made video of Anish's games, Shakh played some great games, if you can follow them it will be great.

It was Pragg time management that got the better of him in the end. He was like 4 vs 10 min in couple of moves, and this has happened lot with him. He needs better time management for events like blitz and rapid.

This was an awesome video, and match. I'm a 1000 beginner who plays queens gambit as white. Two times I got this line which is very obscure and dismissed as not good (hanging on to the extra pawn with the b pawn), but I wanted to dive deeper and understand it better. When I saw this game from Pragg, I got interested, even though he ends up loosing by blundering his queen (yeah, even GMs do it now and again). Anyway, the thing is that the opening seems to leave both queen side very vulnerable and no one has time to castle before the storms come. So it gives rise to these crazy lines. By the way, Anand Pranav also faced this line against Klementy Sychev a few months later.

why not at 9:06 after Be2 QXg2 Bf3 Bb4 and white queen is lost
@ChessBaseIndiachannel
@ChessBaseIndiachannel 3 жыл бұрын
Very good question! The right move after Qxg2 is Qd2 stopping Bb4+ and sacrificing the rook on h1. After Qxh1 0-0-0! and White plays Bf3 on the next move regardless of where the queen goes and has a huge advantage because of the misplaced position of the king on d8.
