A Day at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

3 жыл бұрынDecember 17th SpaceX had scheduled a launch at 9:15 am, we setup at Playalinda Beach to watch. Due to weather the launch was postponed, we ended up spending the day at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge visiting the Canaveral National Seashore, stopped at the MINWR visitor center, drove along Black Point Drive and capped the day paddling our kayaks at Haulover Canal.

Such beautiful scenery and clear blue waters. Lovely beach that reminds me of Jamaica. The launch would have made a great addition to the video. Hope you are able to catch a launch.

This is one of my favorite beaches! It is so peaceful with it's natural shore line. The trails are fun too. We are so blessed to live near here. And yes, we enjoy the rocket launches too. Where did you launch your kayaks from? i love it when dolphins are around. Beautiful day for a paddle trip. Great video! Very informative for visitors. Haha! You were lucky on your first try to get the phone.

We launched from the north side of Haulover canal. We have a pretty good success rate of seeing dolphin along the canal.

I never think of Florida as cloudy or cool. Wow. Some great views along those trails.

Great tour of the area and nice paddle. Poor Manatee. Probably illegal but I would have been tempted to take a bone.

I was tempted, Manatee bones are a grey area, the animal is no longer considered endangered, but is considered protected. I didn't want to take the chance. We did see some more dead manatee a couple weeks later. Unfortunately the manatee are in a bad situation along the Indian River right now, with algae blooms and loss of sea grass.

They say the gators are more scared of us than us of them, but if I see one, I'm staying in the car.
