Bit of a random watch for me. I miss the Countryside. My childhood was spent in the Countryside until my parents divorced. I'm 42 now. We grew everything in this video and more. Innocent times.

Potatoes - you should not deprive yourself of the many pleasures of the potato. Getting away from the internet is a very good thing, and finding quiet and relaxation are not nothing. People who work in cities have for a long time now spent a lot of money to get access to those things. For activities, it seems you found one that was occupying some of the remaining villagers: splashing around in water. I guess relaxing, socializing, reading/writing, and gardening would be the standard summer activities, were you staying longer. Which doesn't sound bad at all, though I'm just watching from a great distance. Oh, and you found time to make a lovely video during your visit. Thanks for showing us this semiabandoned village and some of the people. Your aunt seems sweet. I'm always happy to see these vignettes from your life, past and present.

I live in rural America and the same thing is happening here. Small towns gradually disappear because the young people leave for the excitement and opportunity of the city, and the older folks die off so the community fades and eventually vanishes....It makes me sad because I love small town life

I'm writing this from my family cottage in Canada where we have no electricity, potable running water, or a road, and I love it here more than anything. Getting away from the city life is such a blessing and I love your family's space too. We recently installed an antenna that gives us better cell signal and it's a mixed blessing. We can be connected and do work from here, but also we're still connected to city life. It's such a trade off, the city vs country life. Another great video - keep them coming! You're a gem.

So many people need a break from hectic lives and noisy cities... and your slow dreamy camerawork on decorated houses, silent trees and pretty plants, accompanied by your soft voice and gentle movements and presentation, is not only an insight into the quiet heart of Russia, but also I think into the forgotten quietness of our own hearts. And it's there we find our deepest values... Maybe, like many before you, you will write your best poetry in your dacha, even though it does take quite a while to appreciate rural peace after urban chaos! Nice music too in your videos :-)

You're a nice and intelligent person Elena, do this more often, this offers you a connection within yourself instead of input from many outside sources. Discover yourself, who you really are. This place is far more important than your maybe realize, your roots are still present there, get connected with them. Your still so young and beautiful with plenty of desires like all young people. Enjoy this period in your life but realize how fast it passes by. Things change all the time. A human life is an important investment. Whatever you think about it. I love you and I hope and wish you will find all the good this very life has to offer. Keep that door open.

Homegrown potatoes are much more tasty, than those industrial-farmed from supermarket :) But yes, it takes a lot effort and work.

I just finished my second book by Dostoevsky "The Idiot" and since much of the book takes place in the "dacha" I watched your video to get more of a feel for what I was reading. I watched your video on Crime and Punishment locations and it was also incredibly interesting. Russia is an amazing country and I am enjoying reading these classic Russian works. I plan on reading Demons and the Brothers Karamazov next. I grew up during the cold war and learned about Russia through the lens of my government and parents, I am fortunate to have an opportunity to learn and see how rich your country is - very unlike what I was taught. Every time you post a video, I could write so much in response and want to talk to you about it. It's crazy... Do you need a pen pal or what the modern version of it may be called? xD In Germany, we have a similar concept to Dacha, called "Schrebergarten". They are much smaller. I like the idea of russian Dachas way more. The goal is the same, to get out of the city, away from all the noise and fast paced life. I'm pretty sure you can "hear the quiet". I expericed this once on a vacation at the baltic sea, a few km away from the touristic hot spots. I needed a few days to adjust... and I have never been so relaxed. But I went there with friends so it wasn't boring ;) The hard work people put in their gardens for stuff you could just buy: I think that has multiple reasons. For some people it's to find a balance to their office job. Creating something with your hands that you can watch grow. Another reason may be the "back to nature" trend in a world where food is more and more processed. We don't really have houses like the ones you showed in your video any more. maybe a few in very rural places in eastern germany. Young people moved away from those locations because they have more possibilities in cities; better education, better jobs. This among other things, lead to skyrocketing prices for property and rent. Because of this and the effect of noise/stress on people's health and life quality, there seems to start a trend now where they go back to the small towns and villages around the bigger cities. The possibility to work from home might be another factor. For someone working from home, like you and me, a dacha might not be the best way to balance our work. I for one sometimes miss meeting people and going out. Although I sadly don't have many contacts left. They moved everywhere around Germany, started families and so their priorities changed.... How about your friends from university for example? Russia is such a huge country, do you still have contact with each other? (wait how did I get here? this was about dachas...) edit: typos

You have a really calm, relaxing way of narrating, that really gives it an intimate feeling. It's really nice, and makes your videos really enjoyable. And neat to see some dacha life, it looks like a nice place to spend time.

Thanks for sharing this part of Russia ... may be one day these country side houses will get a second life. By the way, we have seen the same trend over the past 30 years in Europe/US/Asia, people living the country side and moving to the cities. May be it was just a faster move In Russia during the 1990s due to the economical conditions.

Great video Elena. I watched it with great interest. In Italy constructions such as Dacha aren't very spread, firstly for the climate; in fact we find their almost only in mountains. According to my opinion it was very interesting the cultivation of cucumbers, potatoes, strawberries etc, that they have a particular taste and they're more delicious than the fruit, vegetables you buy in the market or supermarket. Finally, I think that places such as the forest or countryside are fantastic for the clean air or the quietly and relax, but if I wanna to enjoy I prefer a commercial center, a city or a travel in the country or abroad.

It's a great video of countrylife in Russia. The oriental style carpet on the wall was also a fashion in western Europe some fifty years ago. Your grandparents did just follow an international fashion trend 😉 The Rigonda radio is "Made in Riga", today in Latvia. That's why they have Helsinki marked right there. People in Tashkent or Odessa are unlikely to be able or wanting to listen to Radio Helsinki.

This was calming to watch. I know rural life so much though I never grew up with a garden, the people would mind their own business and it would be so peaceful. Sometimes too peaceful and too quiet, but I know exactly how good it feels to return to this kind of peaceful quiet place after living away from home into a college town for years and gone through bad times. In the end, did you mean to say "nostalgia?" It's the familiar good feeling of past memories. A real example of the word here is you returned to the old places you've been to and then you started to feel nostalgic.

Is it the icon from sec 4:59 representing Saint Nicolae? I inherited a similar icon from my grandparents. I know it has a text written in slavic but don't understand it. My grandfather knew Russian because he had Russians roots. Unfortunately, I didn't learn it, he died when I was little, and my mother learned just few words. I am from Romania, and I was born in an area where there is a big community of Russians Lipovans. Thank you for your videos, and I appreciate posting the latest one talking about the present situation in your county. These days is more important than ever to create communication bridges between us, the common people, and see all this crazy times as a chance to unite and not divide us.

I enjoy watching your channel, you have a unique way of telling your stories .I kind of felt sad about empty houses in Udmurtia villages, same thing is happening all around the world unfortunately. Sometimes ago I've watched another Russian channel that a Bashkir or Tatar young woman was pioneering to improve economical activity to make life better in the villages like producing organic honey, vegetables and fruits. By the way the fruit you picked up from tree was not cherry, it was вишня, vishnya. you make jam or compote with it. Enjoy your holiday in Udmurtia.

Well, I do know, I could not lol. The internet and social media and all that can be very overwhelming and stressful, and yet it also allows for good things. It allows me, an American, to get a glimpse of a village on the other side of the planet. And I like that very much, along with the rest of your wonderful content.

Did you make an introductory video, where you introduced yourself, if you are married, kids, where you work or go to school? Have you ever interviewed with a talent agency? You know, acting, modeling, etc… all above board stuff, legitimate stuff? You are very beautiful. If you’re not married or otherwise tied down, you should move to the US, New York maybe, find an agent. Find a real one, not some joker who doesn’t really have any connections. Take acting classes and tend bar in a pub. You’d make a ton in tips. It can be a tough place, but there’s a lot of contacts there. You’re really gorgeous. Wow. I for one would watch all your movies.
