Ever wonder what it's like to be a professional tree planter? Join us in Quebec with this tree planting crew to find out 🌲
✅ Subscribe to One Tree Planted: bit.ly/2IsCtqc
We often hear people ask how they could get a job being a professional tree planter. Other than volunteering for local reforestation projects, you could get a seasonal job with a contracting company that hires professional tree planters to live and plant trees in remote areas for months at a time. But be careful what you wish for! This is hard work.
Tree planters usually wake up before 5am and work hard doing repetitive physical work while completely exposed to the elements - all alone on their individual blocks of land - for hours. Many describe injuries, exhaustion, and longing for their family and friends. But the rewards are definitely there too! Professional tree planters get paid based on the number of trees they plant, so there is not only a financial incentive to work hard and plant as many trees as possible but also a somewhat fun competitive element where tree planters strive to be the top tree planter among their peers.
The average professional tree planter can plant about 2-3K trees per day, but some of the best can plant up to 5K trees per day, those tree planters are called "highballers!" This video documents the experience of one crew in Quebec in 2018.

I so appreciate this! I’m leaving the Netherlands because of lack of nature and space. Here you’re not able to replant anything. Only authorities can do it, otherwise they can cut everything down. Me and my wife are moving to Sweden. We are really hopping to start a small group and replant ancient forests. Please let this planet thrive with us together.

The only way to do that is to stop companies from putting so much sugar in our foods and weight loss companies from spreading myths like "exercise will make you lose weight". There are many factors to what causes us to gain weight. This includes how and how fast our body prosseses food and liquid (we call that the metabolism) what foods your specific body type needs, your daily posture, and how your body is impacted by sugar. Exercise is still healthy and it does burn energy, but it plays a very small role in our weight.

Brinkman was a great company and last season (of two lol) I did! HRI was pretty brutal. Working 5 days on and 1 day off was fucked. Brinkman , on the other hand, made us feel less shit about needing time off (I got bad tendonitis but got to do some paid work on camp for a couple days while i my wrist got less fucked). In my experience the companies and the crews I was with were not encouraging of taking time needed off. Makes sense though. They can't have workers not planting cause it slows the whole contract and can be costly for the whole operation. Anyway I really liked working for Brinkman and their work days (3 days on 1 day off, repeat). The planting season is 2-3 months if I recall. Can't really do it for a month. You have to find your way back home in from some middle of no where town if you quit mid season. Especially if its your first year. You really make the most money mid to end of season, once your body has gotten a hang of things. Its a rewarding and fun experience, in spite of the hardships ;)

Or even have one or two people ahead of time, set up a stand covering the distance you would travel planting a satchels worth. They could just lay out all the sachels ahead of time,maybe some water and food every so often, so the planters could just grab a satchel and go? I dunno, but I wanna do it lol.
@sketch12301
@sketch12301 Жыл бұрын
@@jasonstauffert5559 They would randomly lay them, respecting the tree's spacing needs per plot? That would be wasted labour the planter does as they plant (using their eyes, hands, and shovel to check for an appropriate spot). Pre scattering them without considering how shallow, deep, or kind of soil, shade condition, etc would just leave the planter to wasting their time assessing where to actually plant the tree. Planting the actual tree doesn't take long. Some planters can do 1 tree every three seconds and ideally shouldn't be going slower than 1 every 6-9 sec (if you wanna make bank). Once the planter has the physical and mental flow they clear out their bags relatively quickly. Its a fun job and I enjoyed doing it the two summers I spent in my mid twenties! :D

Plantings piece work, depending on the land and access to the blocks (and your company) it can be anywhere from 11-20 cents or more per tree, most will average between 1500-3000 trees a day

@@athenapatrick5447 when I planted in australia 5 to 6 years ago the rates where between 10 and 16 cents a tree. The company I worked for had production bonus as well, which means you earn more for a tree at the end of the day the more you plant. 10 cents + 1 cent if you plant 1500 a day and another cent more if you end up with more then 2400 a day and depending on the contract another cent on top if you finish the season ;). In New Zealand the rates are between 16 and 33 cents a tree. Some pretty steep blocks there I would compare with costal planting in canada. I guess I do not have to explain you how it works in canada. I started planting in the UK 3 years ago and the prices were usually 8 pence minimum. But they have also different type of planting. For example planting a tree next to a stake and cover it in a tube. Those units vary from 55p to 75p. They can be a gold mine ;). Hope that helped. Welcome to ask me any questions. Bye Seb
