Back in the shop after a week at the Rocky Mountain Blacksmithing Conference and it's time to get back to work. Join me on a relatively typical day in the shop as I try to complete a batch of bowl adzes. While those come up to temperature for hardening and tempering I use the time to my best advantage by working on other projects .

That's a great looking bandsaw. We have an almost identical one where I work. The only major difference is that the front top edge of the bed on yours steps down, and ours is straight. They're truly a workhorse!

Excellent video. It is great getting an insight to your working day and I appreciate you letting us in to your life. Thank you very much. You are developing into more than a blacksmith video maker, you are becoming a good friend.

This is absolutely splendid! A real world look at a one person craftsman production and a more realistic sense of how you use your machines off of the anvil.

I'm just starting out (51years old). I have made a brake disk forge on a budget to see if my wrists will hold up to the stresses put on them by hammering etc without investing too much into it . Just wanted to say thanks for all your videos, I find them to be both inspirational and educational. Much appreciated, thank you and best regards, from the UK.

Thanks again for another great video. I can sit and relax at the end of a long day leaning more every night about one of the many things I want to learn more about. Its great to get the perspective of a full time smith and see how your have laid out your shop and how you have dealt with fitting all your tooling into a system that works for you. I have gained a lot of insight into this craft through watching you work and listening to you teach. Thank you for taking the time!

For my first Blacksmit "fair".I plan to go to the Quad State in Ohio which is said to be one of the biggest. Know it's far from you but I would like to see you there. After one year of only You-Tube learning , I need to learn better fire management I feel. I hope to get a long hard bristle bush as you shown and more them great mill gloves as you show from time to time. So I hope it a chance to see forage welds.first hand and meet some Smiths as Facebook has given me a chance to see their products and projects. Thanks again and I try to be safe and only burn up coal.

Really great to see how you go throught the day ! I do the same thing as you do, stacking up different projects in order to optimize the working time. Great production work, I'd love to see more about your hinges and articulated mecanisms !

Just got a really nice leg vice, Hope to get a solid mount as your's, Seems like it makes many parts of a job easier and safer having a third hand. Seems lots of people potty themselves when they see someone with a better tooling but we pick our path. Thanks

I like watching the videos and I enjoy what you're doing. What did you dip the adze edges in?
@BlackBearForge
@BlackBearForge 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. That is a hot dip edge protector to protect both the sharp edge from damage and the blacksmith from getting cut.

Is that hardy tool you are using when making hinges one you made specially for that work, or can you buy those commercially? Enjoy all your videos, thanks for sharing.

Just a little feedback for the video side of things. When you're fast-forwarding through things like grinding you should leave out the audio and you could even play some music instead. That grinding sound in fast forward makes my teeth hurt!
