I'm so glad you stopped to get gas when I saw your gas gauge. Thank you for wearing a mask and being safe and protecting yourself and others. This is fun traveling with you, I'm enjoying it. Back to the video. Secretly hoping you pull out the guitar and sing for us.

That gravel is often ancient fringe reefs that are from excavating building sites, it's hauled away in big chunks, ground up and repurposed as road material. In Washington State we don't have anything that interesting. Edward J. Petuch has a beautiful book on Floridian fossils. The horse conch is a species of Triplofusus, in the family Fasciolariidae. The welks are species of Busycon, family Buccinidae and lastly a species of Melongena in the family Melongenidae. The bivalve or clam is a Mercenaria species also known as a quahog. I would love to see more from that site.

What you've got is what I call a Free Day-- nothing promised, nowhere you have to be, so you can just pick a direction and drive (I ended up over the CA border in Death Valley once on a day like that when I lived in NV, it was great!) That's when you find unexpected treasures. Breakfast? The hearts of my enemies, naturally... Actually I'm a cheesegrits woman, plus some fruit or yogurt and horrifyingly strong tea that dissolves spoons. As for the little shell-creek, I'd love to see more from there-- that shell is a freakin' MONSTER. And ow, hand-sanitizer! I got caught in some old rusty strands of barbed wire while out geocaching and had nothing else with me to clean up with, so I had to do the same thing; stung like fire, and then all I could do was wrap my leg with a bandanna. Ow. And the shell bikini idea? Hey, follow your bliss, right? The bottle beach was just insane; I know some glass bead artists who'd love to help clean that up.

Awesome, Kyle! would love to see more from that location. Also, is there a way to tell whether a shell is fossilized or just an old shell? Since watching your videos, think maybe a old large clam i picked up yrs ago is a fossil, something i never imagined. i did find it near a bay, so it wasn't like finding it in a gravel layer in the woods.
@WILDKYLE3 жыл бұрын
It can be sort of hard to tell with shells so location is usually the best way to tell if it's a fossil. If found in a creek or river very far inland from the coastline there's a good chance it's a fossil!
@jocelynnguyen28123 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing! Years ago I was on Captiva Island and kept picking up these little kittens paws shells that looked fossilized (not fresh, kinda concrete-d if that’s a word) and was wondering if they were fossils. The shell museum on Captiva, what a dream
@billmiller40283 жыл бұрын
For years I have collected broken bottles from old dump sites. I take the tall bottles with good embossing and cut and polish them to make drinking glasses. The pieces of bottles with good embossing I trim and polish the edges put them in a kiln to flatten and make necklace pendants. Be sure to drill any holes before heating. The kiln will normalize any stresses caused by drilling. A note about the horse conchs. There are left hand twist shells and right hand twist shells, it makes a neat display to have one of each side by side. If you want any other ideas for your finds, just drop me a line. Mr Bill.
