I worked as a Seasonal worker in Yosemite during college. Lived in a camp in a secluded corner of Curry Village known as 'the Terrace." (which has since been torn down due to rockfall) Best summers ever. So many cool people and adventures, it was like a movie......like a cult of outdoorsy college kids whose only goal was to party and climb rocks. Alot of the 'residents' were just random permanent climbers who slept on the floor of staff cabins.

When I was in college we used to work RenFair in the Fall. On Friday after class we'd load up my mom's old station wagon I was borrowing during RenFaire time. We'd drive to Pleasantville, TX, get to the camp grounds, set up camp, drink beer and sing songs around the campfire. We'd get up early to be at our positions and set up our games in time for the faire to start. After a very long day talking in our Renaissance accents we'd head back to the campground for more of the same. We'd take showers by water hose and not stay up nearly as late Sat night. Sunday we'd get up early enough to pack up camp, head to the fairground for another long day, then after the activities ended we'd begin the 2 hour drive back to campus. We did this for the entire 8 weeks of the RenFaire. We made $100 a weekend. This was from 1992 - 1994 (I didn't do it my Freshman year or my Senior year) these were amazing memories and shaped me in so many ways. The money was cash under the table so didn't affect grants and at the end of the season we got a big $500 bonus. Good times!

As a seasonal worker myself in the asphalt industry and snow removal during the winter months I work long and hard hours (12-14 hours a day) when the sun is shining or when it’s snowing and I take my time to enjoy any time off I DO receive when weather prevents us from working since I never really know when I am going to have that time for myself. I used to worry and fret about my pay until I realized that it’s just wasted energy. It all evens out at the end of the year.

We started jogging towards the waterfall when I yelled at everyone to stop. They all asked me why and I asked them "what do you hear?" They said, "nothing". I said "right, that waterfall is a lot farther away than it looks." We got back in the car and figured out how to drive closer to it.

Season work is fine, until you have no 401K, retirement/benefits. Unless you have a SO working full time, it’s important to think about the future as well. Unless you’re wealthy and have a big savings to fall back on when hard times come, I would suggest to those thinking this lifestyle is something to aspire to, to find consistent work. You gotta think about the future not just now.

I worked in the grocery store in the summer of 1984. I got tired of the hot Valley, so I quit and hiked up to Tuolumne to climb (no car) which put me on the "no rehire" list. LOL Damn, that was 40 years ago...
@cyninbend

Yosemite is paradise. We started using the campgrounds in Tuolemne instead of the Valley to escape the crowds. Porcupine Flats is my favorite, but you must exercise care because bears do come thru in the middle of the night--no food in tents, etc. We never saw them, just a bent grill and footprints! The walk to May Lake from White Wolf campground is beautiful! Meadow, woods, and even a backpack trail to Hetch Hetchy Reservoir on the other side. Just don't go down the switchback if it's rainy... There are so many places to go to vary your experiences...Glacier Point to Tanya Lake... So many hikes and walks to take...would take years to see it all. PS I got married in the chapel there, too!

Worked at the Grand Canyon for a summer in the 90's. I strongly recommend anyone looking for a job to apply at the National Park Services, it was a great experience. I worked in the laundry, so I never had to deal with the public while on or off the clock if I didn't want to, but your job may vary.

Seasonal worker for one summer in glacier national park. I got paid $8.50 per hour in 2018. Had to pay $200 a month rent for the cabin I shared with another guy. I was a shuttle driver so I drove people from the train station to the lodge and back. I had a schedule and hit all my stops much like a city bus driver. I worked from 4pm-1am daily and had like Tuesday Wednesday off I think. It was a fun summer but not a sustainable life for me personally. I worked for a company called “Xanterra” getting the job was easy af. They will set you up for winter season working as a ski resort and you can just go back and forth year after year like most of the older retired people / young people do.
