Our visit to the Newark Air Museum, on a former Royal Air Force station at Winthorpe, near Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire, England. Please check the chapters for specific aircraft.
"one of the UK's largest volunteer managed aviation museums. Our diverse collection of aircraft and cockpit sections covers the history of aviation; the aircraft on display include 13 National Benchmark aircraft; 34 Significant aircraft and 21 Noteworthy aircraft as listed in the National Aviation Heritage Register. Nearly two thirds of the exhibits are now displayed inside." www.newarkairmuseum.org/

My Dad did his national service and worked / played football on the wings of Lancaster bombers. He was one of the very last to be signed up for national service. I’m still lucky enough to have him at 88 years young

Remember sitting in a Shackelton at RAF Turnhouse while it was taxiing in the early '60s. Can still smell the leather.

When I saw the Hawker Siddley Dominie, I grabbed my logbooks out of the cupboard, I never flew in that one, the closest I got was XS727, all those years ago.

There’s something about a good aircraft museum. Mind you I might be a bit biased, I did an apprenticeship to become and aircraft electrician and worked as an aircraft engineer for just over 50 years (September 1969 to March 2020) including my apprenticeship. Some of the aircraft I used to work on are in museums now, G-VTOL a Harrier and G-HAWK a Hawk (strangely) are in Brooklands, XX154 another Hawk the very first one to fly in 1974 is in Old Sarum. I even went to the Boeing factory in Seattle to do delivery inspections on two 747-400’s then worked on them for their entire working lives. Both scrapped now, but I did sign the flight clearance on one of them for its last ever flight to St Athen to be scrapped, the other one went after I’d retired. Aircraft can sort of get under your skin if you know what I mean. Working on them becomes a way of life, and yes I do miss them! But knowing some of my past (aircraft) is in museums made me feel like a museum piece myself. So Newark Air museum is another place now on the “must visit list”

I've not been to an aircraft museum for many years. My father when he was in the RAF was a trainer in the RAF Technical Training. He trained men in aircraft maintenance.

Enjoyed the tour of the museum, it's been a good few years since we have been. My parents lived nearby & remember when the Vulcan came in to land there. First time in she did a touch & go, the roar was something to behold. A family friend worked at the museum at the time. The farmer next door was advised to stand away from the fence while the Vulcan turned. He refused saying he can stand where I like. When she turned it blew him off his feet 😂😂

The Vulcan is stored at doncaster airport and when they bring it out to run the engines the noise is so loud. Just hope Peel holdings don’t shut the airport as no idea what would happen to the last remaining Vulcan 😞
