Here is a walk around of Yorkshire Air Museum that I took on 28 August 2021 that includes the Mirage III, Mirage IV, Buccaneer, Halifax, Harrier GR3, Tornado GR4, and much more.
I didn't manage to get all the exhibits in as it was a very busy day but hopefully, you will enjoy what I managed to capture.

I remember when airshows used to be a held at Elvington, shame its no longer a thing.

Used to hold a great little airshow here. There's great 'old-school' footage of an F3 displaying here in 2002, especially of interest to Mike! For a smaller show on a former base, the displays always felt more intimate than at Waddington or RIAT, especially the odd fast jet that made an appearance. The museum is brilliant and has a little something for everyone. Proud to have some great little aircraft types up here in Yorkshire including the Mirage iv, the Victor and Nimrod. The Nimrod incidentally was my best mate's ride when he was based up at Kinloss.

I used to visit this museum once a year in cadets, where our entire squadron spent a couple hours, or whatever it was, to clean this big old Victor, and got to crawl around inside it.

Yorkshire Air Museum - Its an utterly brilliant place. This video gives you a taster but a lot of the stuff is very different when you're stood next to it, In many cases going inside it. You see the video - But you *still* do not appreciate just how sodding enormously *big* those Frog jobs are. At the other end of the scale, tucked away in a scruffy dimly lit hanger they have a complete replica of Sir George Caley's steerable glider which in 1853 flew across Brompton Dale.

Had a wander around this place a few years ago when I was sent four hours early to the industrial estate next door. The planes and ordnance were interesting, but the highlight for me was the "Teignmouth catapult", used by Barnes Wallace to develop the concept of the bouncing bomb. A little bit of history, fascinating and unique.

A little bit of commentary would've gone a long way. Especially for the non Aero guys amongst us. ;/

Going to listen to this on the podcast tomorrow 😁 Seriously though, this museum has been on my bucket list for years but I’ve never managed to get there yet. The French jets are seriously beautiful creations which I’ve really only began to appreciate in more recent years after moving to France. Keep up your great work and congratulations again on your podcast reaching so high😊 All the best, Ian

The tales these planes could tell! Interesting and great to see the engines still in place in some of them. Brill video. P.S. Does anybody recognise you on these videos?

Awesome aircraft! Some desperately need a new paint job, though. Hopefully they get around to it a some point. Good video.

The Lightning was originally housed in the hangar display area in immaculate condition, but for some reason has been left outside to the elements and looked in a very sorry state the last time I visited …most disappointing for one of the most iconic aircraft at the museum to be treated like this…Javelin the same and looks like the Blue diamond Hunter is going the same way.

Great video, any chance they can house some of the outside aircraft in a hanger?
@dogsnads5634

Elvington was rebuilt after WW2 as a dispersal site for SAC, the runway is huge and the dispersal pan absolutely colossal, but there is only 1 hangar, and its absolutely full to the brim. No chance of anything else fitting in, most of the aircraft in there aren't suitable for outside storage but they do rotate some in and out where they can. The main part of the hangar is occupied with the Halifax, no way they're leaving that outside. They could really do with a couple more hangars, but the cost would be enormous.

@@dogsnads5634 understand. I was a guide at Tangmere, same problem but they have secured funds for a new hanger. I dont think planes age well in British climate, hopefully a solution is found , have to come up sometime 👍

Why is it that most Lightnings they have on show at places like this are in a terrible state.
