I love the duality of this song. They start off so confident (sometimes you’re the hammer) then it all falls apart with needing the reassurance that it’s ok to falter (sometimes you’re the nail)

I was sitting in rehab and someone requested this song. I do not think that any song has affected me the way this one had at the time, at least in that moment. I practically took an anxiety attack and was balling my eyes out the entire group (music therapy or maybe a meditation group).. This was the right song, at the right time of day, at the proper hour, while being in the right mood (if you can call it a mood). I just played it and it brought me back to all those emotions when I was in that group in rehab 2 months ago. mind you it has been a VERY VERY VERRRRY LONG 2 years--methamphetamine this last run--I tore my life down in 8 months, almost lost my daughter, fiancé, siblings, friends, rest of the family, my dignity, self respect, nearly my life on 3 occasions. ALL THIS hit me at once after hearing 2:55 on. That drug will RUIN anyone

Just take it one day/hour/min at a time brother! I don’t know you but, Im happy for you, Im proud of you for going into treatment. I remember those moments in rehab (it was brutal at times! but man, best thing that ever happened to me BY FAR!) I started using again 2wks after I got home but, all of those things that were drilled into us (even the things I’d forgotten/willfully ignored) came flooding back and it wasn’t the same being off the wagon. (My drugs of choice were meth and oxys/hydros) As of the end of July ‘22, I have been sober 15yrs! So, if I can do it so can you!

It wasn’t the same exact circumstances but….the first time I heard this song, I was in a very dark place (one of those “Lord please just give up on me and not let me wake up in the morning”/making THE plans, kinda places.) Made it to that last part and I couldn’t hold it anymore, I cried so hard for a solid hour! Im glad you’re still here to talk about it Laura! 🖤

Music has the power to literally change the world. But that line cast your stones etc. Def hits home to someone who's been judged bullied casted out.

the lyrics, man. I've first listened to this years ago, and now in 2022, I still think this is still one of the songs that has meaningful lyrics to it, that i can always relate. Life is fucking tiring. with deceptions, regrets, paranoia, insecurities, doubts etc. but when i listen to this song especially this part: "I reserve my right to feel uncomfortable, Reserve my right to be afraid, I make mistakes and I am humbled, Every step of the way .. I want to be a better person, I wanna know the master plan, Cast your stones cast your judgment, You dont make me who i am" I feel like I'm still able to live through this life, not for anyone else but for myself. Thank you for this song, ADTR!
