A Definitive Ranking of 2023 Pop Culture Moments
my new years resolution is to stop bringing up snap snap
I can't believe it's already time for this video! This time last year we definitively ranked pop culture and meme moments from 2022 and I had a few of you ask for a 2023 version so here we are. Also thanks to everyone who has been sending stuff in over the past few weeks, really appreciate it :)) also x2 sorry if i sound quieter than usual i had the flu when i was recording this go easy on meeee thank u LOL and final also... (sorry) you prob noticed i had to try a different set up for filming this one, because this was a longer list and the tier size was going to change a lot i realized the easiest way to keep as much of it in view as possible was to ditch the green screen for this one so hope you dont mind!!!
Ok SO after consulting you guys (and myself lol) i widdled down all the pop culture moments and memes that happened this year whether they were tik tok trends, twitter moments, celebrity pop culture stuff or other noteworthy events for us to rank today! We're talking the Josh Hutcherson whistle meme, Harry Styles going bald, Taylor Swift enjoying seemingly... ranch? The Pedro Pascal renaissance on Tiktok, the "girly teen girl" twitter debate, Lana Del Rey working at waffle house and tons of other stuff too.
Like I mentioned in the video this list isn't exhaustive, because my tier names are the way they are there are some things that just flat out do not make sense to rank within it lol so hope that's understandable! As always with these videos though while the ranking is definitive for me it doesn't have to be for you! Josh Hutcherson has become the god of my all-girls school. Like at the Thanksgiving assembly where people say what they are thankful for, so many girls said him. There are pictures of him taped up everywhere, there have been group thirst sessions, and the Whistle edits gets sent around like a Rickroll. I fear his power.

My favourites (a bit long sorry) - Shakira's diss track & the memes of the eaten jam leading to the discovery her ex-boyfriend was cheating on her - Angela Bassett did the thing! Mainly because this was when I just made a TikTok. Makes me feel nostalgic now - Ken's song in the Barbie film & I am Kenough - Anything about Barbie! The press tour, the film in general, "I do not have a vagina", "I have all the genitals', "I'm here to see my gynaecologist" - The edits of "X is red, X is blue". The best ones I saw were with ATSV, Cars, Formula 1 & FC Barçelona (mascle & femeni, specifically the Alexia Putellas one) - Across The Spider-Verse... the best animated film I've ever seen. And believe me that it was no easy feat... cuz the previous title holders were Cars & The Lion King for 17 years & my whole entire life respectively - Total Eclipse Of The Heart performed by the Diary Of A Whimpy Kid cast. The meme never failed to make me laugh - HER NAME IS LOLA. SHE WAS A SHOWGIRL. BUT THAT WAS 30 YEARS AGOO WHEN THEY USED TO HAVE A SHOOOW - S Club 7's Don't Stop DMX' Where Da Hood At mash-up from Participation Certificate. It at the time of the Whopper Better Faster Stronger meme - 33 MV by Carte Blanq & Maxx Power... can you tell what sport(s) I watch(ed)? xD - DJ Mandy: a DJ who does funny af remixes of anything. She's actually good but goddamn is she commited to the effing bit - Dream's meltdown over the fact that Quackity ghosted him & then when Tom "TommyInnit" Simons said: lol you're a drama queen in a video. He is a creepy buttwhipe besides that but that's for a different video - Taylor Roche: DJ that mixes everything into Crank That (Soulja Boy) - This is more of a Dutch-speaker meme: Joost Klein's Florida lyric "Daar Sta Je Dan", brought a few funny as hell memes - Another mainly Dutch-speaker meme: BAMIBOYS... nieuw filmpje & toedeledoki

I think you missed a lot of the context as to why so many people were freaking out over bald Harry Styles - it was because he did it like right after 1989 Taylor's Version came out and iirc in one of the vault songs Taylor makes a snide remark about Harry growing his hair out after they broke up, so even though it was most likely a really crazy coincidence all the Swifties were freaking out bc they thought he shaved his head in response to a Taylor Swift lyric. And while we're talking about Taylor Swift, IMO the "seemingly ranch" meme was ruined almost immediately by brands capitalizing on it, like Heinz literally made a limited run of "seemingly ranch" sauce. If anything, to me the "seemingly ranch" meme was a terrifying display of how powerful Taylor and her fans became this year.

@@Coffeebaby99 Oh yeah man. I'm not even the biggest Taylor fan either but by god she seemed almost inescapable this year with her Eras Tour. I remember going to see the FNAF movie when it came out with my friends and we walked into the movie theater right as a showing of her Eras Tour movie had ended and we were greeted with what seemed like a horde of rabid young women and girls with pink cowboy hats and kandi bracelets who all looked like they'd seen God Himself. 2023 was Taylor Swift's year (even Time fucking magazine seems to agree with that) and from the looks of things 2024 will be hers too. If you wanna know my thoughts on her actual music, she's made some songs I truly despise with every fibre of my being, but damn, those two folky chamber pop albums she dropped during the pandemic? I think they're great. Some genuine tear-jerkers on those records.

I was so confused seeing Harry shaved. I'm not on social media, so this video was my first time hearing about it. I'm a fan of BTS though and they have all recently shaved their heads because they have enlisted in the South Korean military for their mandatory service. It took my brain a few moments to realise there are other reasons people shave other than joining the military.
