Here's a possibly interesting factoid: The idea of alien life like the Hur'q having Germanium-base carapaces is realistically viable. This being due to the theorized possibility that any element in the same column/group/family as Carbon could also work as a genetic "backbone" due to having an electron valence of 4. Though obviously it would be significantly rarer then finding carbon-based life. "The more you know."

I think the larger problem is finding an alternative to water in the chemistry of life. It has unique properties. As far as I know it is the only known substance that increases in volume when frozen.
@markfergerson2145
@markfergerson2145 3 жыл бұрын
@@rexstocephirxiii4263 A lot of materials expand on freezing- silicon, gallium, germanium itself, antimony, bismuth, plutonium and many alloys of those metals. A fairly common room-temperature liquid compound that expands on freezing is acetic acid. The search term you want is "negative thermal expansion". The trick of course is getting NTE in a usable temperature range (not Y-class environments only frinst) and in a material that supports the chemistry of the elements you have to work with, in this instance germanium. Are there germanium compounds that are sufficiently stable in acetic acid for the Hur'q to be able to make exoskeletons out of it? I don't know, but that's what you'd need for the Hur'q to be real-world chemically possible as described.

Works everytime. What created the United Federation? Romulans attacking all founding races. Khitomer? Klingon and UFP getting attacked by Borg. Khitomer 2.0: Romulans joining in because Iconians are behind the disaster. And that Iconians have a beef with everyone in the galaxy. This extends to the Dominion war as well. Nothing binds an Alliance better than an enemy who has the blood of everyone else involved. Revenge is a one hell of a drug.

Using high explosives, or even my lava trap ability in an enclosed space surrounded by unrefined uridium ore honestly didn't occur to me. But since friendly fire doesn't seem to be a thing in this game, it didn't bother me much either. The main thing I remember about this mission was that I had a bit of a difficult time wrangling bridge officers through the pylon puzzle sequence. They kept getting left behind on the other side of the gap, and I had to keep going back for one or more of them. It was near the end of the mission that I accidentally figured out what the "assemble bridge officers" feature was for. A feature that I've never needed before, and haven't since.

There are a few we haven’t seen in game. Ben Sisco. Miles O’Brian, Dukat. Dax (either), Jake Sisco (although given the advanced timeline of STO they could just get Tony Todd to do him too). Avery Brooks is an odd character and artist. I’m not sure I could picture him doing voice work, unless it was for a project that really sparked his interests. And I doubt if STO could afford him or Colm Meany. Brooks had starring roles in two major long running tv series. By all reports he also managed his money and invested well. So he leads exactly the life he wants. Colm Meany is one of those character actors that always has quality work being offered and has the luxury of picking and choosing what he does.
@Peregrine57
@Peregrine57 3 жыл бұрын
It's not about the money in most cases. Though you can bet they don't work for free. Many of them have a sense of pride and ownership of the characters they once embodied, and are interested in the chance to revisit them, if the project and the script are right. These stories were written well enough to peak the interest of the actors, otherwise they would have easily passed.

The horizontal head spikes, triangular faces, and long, spindly limbs made me think of the Iconians as well. Don't think they're related, but it would be an intriguing thought: maybe the Hur'q were an emergency backup plan to rebuild the Iconians' civilization, set up more or less on the fly when they fell under attack, but have been running on a "safe mode" (AKA, "guarantee your survival by killing f***ing everything" mode) ever since, because Empress Sela stole the Iconians' macguffin and prevented the proper wake-up call.

Iya. No, you would not get pulled out into space. You would get PUSHED out into space, by the atmosphere of your station, that is pressurized. Space does not suck. But you do not need to take mai word for it, Commander Data ALSO explained that back in the TNG era. Even supposedly learned people try to make excuses to claim that things are "sucked" from a high pressure toward a lower pressure, but in reality it is the higher pressure that PUSHES and overwhelms the lower pressure.

I hate to bring up Star Trek Beyond, but the Hur'q swarm ships look an awful lot like the swarm ships that were proved so weak against 90s American Hip-hop group Beasty Boys' beats dropping. Is there any connection there, or just a jack of imagination on the part of Star Trek Beyond?

It's nice to have a ds9 throwback, but it really highlights the problem that beta content has with making everyone an admiral or leader of some sort. Personally I think Kai Kira is the worst offender, it just does not fit her character as we saw it imo. In a more joking tone: being on a startrek show is the best career desision in starfleet, if you can survive having the same job and position for 7 years!
